Honestly I cannot imagine any bike is boring. My view is that you get out of a ride what you put into it. But the Bonneville did surprise me with how well it handled on twisty roads, and it had enough grunt to move me along just fine. Considering that it's a self confessed retro standard, it acquits itself well.
Very comfortable too. I've done 250-300 mile days without issues.
For perspective: My main bike is a '99 Ducati 900SS and I have done half a dozen track days - solid intermediate level. The Bonneville doesn't really compare, but it's still a lot of fun once you adjust your expectations.

I thought they were Ramen noodles.

SOLD today.

Isabella is one seriously fine looking moto. She puts those other rides to absolute shame.
I wonder if she'll be ready to roll by this date? That DucRx guy is doing her service right now and you know how he is...

... Lunch will probably be at the same Subway we ate at last year unless 1 of you has a better suggestion. Any other questions/ concerns please feel free to discuss.
Mark
Mark, that Subway has become a bit of a tradition for c.o.r.e. people - a group of us stopped at it on the way back from Deals Gap last year also.
Be sure to take a moment to issue the appropriate warnings about local herbal transportation hazards in the area!!

Highly recommend this ride to all hard core riders. I did the route with Racing Guy and some others last year. It was one of the best days of riding I've ever had. I'll be on this one too if I can.
Mark, do you want to post a notice on rideohio.org ? - one of the blokes on last year's ride was from that board.

Tony, I'm trying to simplify.
...and get some dosh.

Use a snipe program, or alternatively if you are going to be around, decide on your highest bid now, but only place the bid within a minute of the end of the auction.

You trying to tell me something Paul?
-
Considered one of the retro style standards?
I have a 2005 Triumph Bonneville for those days when I'm not up for the thrills of riding a Supersport. Comfy, quick and nimble (for a fake vintage bike), and dead good looking.

5 is worst idea ever. That is assuming your track bike is street legal, but still a terrible idea. When I get to the track the last thing I want to think about is, taking mirrors off, taping shit up, bla bla. I want my bike ready to roll as soon as I roll it off the trailer..
Honestly - riding to the track is a practical alternative. If the logistics of getting your bike to the track are the only thing stopping you from doing a track-day (and the immense benefits to be gained), then treat riding there as an option. Perhaps not optimum, but easily do-able. I've done it 3 times. Prep-time upon arrival is normally less than 30 minutes. Seems to me that most people's bikes at track days are street-legal anyway.
I would suggest arriving with good tires, a full gas tank, bringing loads of water bottles, and arranging some garage space for while you are there (in case of sweltering heat... or rain).
Edit:
While I was typing - the O.P. added that riding to the track day is not an option for him. Understood - it's not everyone's cup of tea!

I had a 750 back in 1988 in the UK. Dark blue silver and red. It was my first sport(y) bike - it was big compared to my previous bikes at least, solid and fast and kept the wind off me - a real novelty. I rode it for pleasure and commuting every day for a year or so and loved every minute of it. My mate on his Kawasaki GT550 rat-bike and I used to ride around East London drinking and being stupid - how we survived is a mystery to me now.
Long live the Katana!!
-
I love John Lydon to death - a real gent, but the Pistols were the British version of The Monkees - let's face it. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.)

I've already begun mapping out the route to Deal's Gap...
I saw you mentioned that in another Gap thread... sounds brilliant. That last trip' date=' the ride down and back was as much fun as the actual event! ...Dreaming...
Bill... We need to hook up and ride man!! I miss all you crazy guys and gals!Brian, dead right mate. I'd like to have an olde style core breakfast in Zanesville when the weather mellows... One day I'll start a thread over on core and see if we can arrange a reunion.. ;-)
-
Nice vid. Cheers. I've got that tingling in me loins and want to ride now..
-
It's my new 'look'. Glad you like it!
-
Cool, thanks for the clarification. That makes perfect sense to me. I'll try this next time I'm out.. If you've ever tried pulling in the stock Ducati SS clutch, you'll realize just how much agony this could save me. :-)
-
Uncle Punk, what do you mean by pre-load the trans?
-
I would put a little pressure on the shifter and then 'blip' the throttle. Just like the way you upshift without the clutch.. only for down shifting. It was pretty cool.
Nifty.
I'll try it next time I'm out.
-
... I tried UP's clutchless downshifting trick and owe him a great' date=' big man hug. It was awesome. No issues at all, except the fact that I broke Jinu's CBR. Oh well, it's not like he doesn't have moarr bikes. [/quote']
Paul, Uncle Punk, what is this technique? I did a search but couldn't figure out the 'trick'!
-
Thanks to BamBam for making sure I made it to Sherrodsville. From there I took the "Atwood Loop" home and finally shed my cowhide around 5 o'clock. The CBR shut down about 5 moarr times between St. Clairsville and my house. So' date=' I shoved Jinu's CBR on its side and then lit it on fire.
No, SRSLY.. it's ablaze right now! w00t!![/quote']
When you weren't looking today, I took the RR for a little spin and rode it into the river. Some fishermen helped me get it out but they insisted that I let them all pee in the tank. What could I say? It would be rude not to allow them.
Anyway, that might have contributed to the 'issues'.
Well done burning that pile of rubbish.
-
I tried to laugh but all i can say is.. that isn't a tire iron.
-
Anyone who's seen it can vouch for the condition.
I vouch. I saw the bike on a ride a couple of months ago and it was in showroom condition. Seemed absolutely new. I've known him for years and Tpoppa is a mature rider who looks after his bikes, I'd have no qualms about taking it (if I were in the market for a new bike).

Thanks jbot... I like to think I'm a bit baller, it's true. I'm sure we're all baller on here pretty much. CORE is still the most baller though, cause it's got Lyndse.
