  1. As mentioned, Route 10 and 22 are the closest really good roads for you.

    The best riding roads in Ohio are in the SE corner of the state: State routes: 555, 676, 145, 147, 148, 26, 78, 255, 800, 556, 536 to name a few of my favourites. As you are relatively inexperienced, better take a guide when you ride 555, 536 and 255 - they are very technical roads..

  2. New chain and sprockets fitted the other day by DucRX. He also found an issue with the front sprocket plate, got the part (cheap) and fixed the issue (after consulting of course). This guy is meticulous, he even fixed my warping front fender gratis. Nice work Paul. The bike feels ready to ride to the Gap...

    NOTE: Paul might be a good tecchie but he bloody broke my riding skills. New gearing (-1 in front, +2 on rear) has now left me back on a bit of a learning curve with a bike I've been riding for nine years now. Much stronger feeling engine now, but on familiar roads I'm searching for the correct gear on occasions.

  3. I just do not agree to use car based oils in a bike. The foaming caused by the oil spinning in the clutch is the reason in my mind. I know there are guys using it w/o issue and you'll always find the exceptions, but it just doesn't make sense to gamble with it.

    Lizard, my Supersport has a dry clutch so the foaming is not an issue for me. I have used Mobil synthetic car oil before but would like to do the right thing. Do any guys you know use car oil in their racing twins? If not, any suggestions as to a good price/performance compromise?

    I used DucRX for an electrical issue I was having, and a couple of tire changes and am also impressed with Paul's attention to detail and methodical approach. It's very confidence inspiring having a true motorcycle enthusiast working on your bike.

    I'll be setting up an appointment with DucRX for new chain and sprockets next week I hope, and a service for the Ducati later in the year.

  6. This won't be a 400 mile all-day thing, probably 3~3.5 hours from start to finish, starting down in Bolivar and heading up to OH-164 and ending in East Canton.

    I'll be on the CORE ride that Fox Racing Guy mentioned on Saturday otherwise I'd hook up with you in Bolivar.

    However, if you get a chance while you are in the area take a little detour on OH-664 between OH-9 and New Rumley - it was freshly paved in the last few weeks - the surface is pristine and firm for about 5 miles. Very nice. The stretch from New Rumley to Scio is older but in good shape both directions.

    Ray Winstone rode in our group. He insisted his name was Chris from Tusc County and like a true pro, stayed in character all day.

    Great actor. And fast!!!

  8. Mark, I plotted the route on Google Maps... roughly anyway..

    New Philadelphia to New River Gorge

    That plot assumes using the bridge to cross into WV, but I'd prefer the Sisterville ferry. Whatever variations though, this is looking great. The Ohio stretch down to the river is always fun, and I've ridden a small section of WV16 before and hear the rest is excellent. Great roads and an interesting destination, I can't wait.

  9. Cross over from McConnelsville to Malta staying on OH-78, then take a left onto 377 and ride that all the way to Chesterhill, take a right onto OH-555 and ride that north back up to Zanesville. A bit out of the way, but very entertaining.

    Alternatively, taking 669 from Malta to Eagleport is different too, and gets nice and twisty from Eagleport to the intersection with OH-555. Take a right on 555 and up to Zanesville.

    You can also take 376 out of McConnelsville and kind of parallel OH-60 but 376 is twistier. It joins back up with OH-60 about 2/3 of the way back to Zanesville. I've only been on 376 once though, and it was a few years ago: not sure what condition it is in right now.

    I'm 50/50 for this ride, I'll let you know if I'm going for sure. I was trying to remember how long it takes to ride from Bolivar to Coshocton via 93. It's a little over an hour if memory serves.

    Tony, yes I think you're right - just about an hour I'd say, not much more.

    ..yes that's the place, just north of Dover, right next to Zoar. We head down from Bolivar on 93 quite often - usually don't go through Coshocton though, but head through West Lafayette instead. I bet it's no more than 45 mins from Bolivar to West Lafayette. Add 10-15 mins for traffic and getting lost in Coshocton.

    I'll definitely try to make it for this ride. You mentioned the Dam. Is that Mohawk Dam? I like that road a lot.

  11. I've ridden that area, but it's been about 3 years. If I can make it, I'll prolly take 93 from Beach City to Coshocton.

    Hey Tony, roughly what time will you be passing through Beach City - I could meet you there? I would like to join this ride - I've ridden a few roads in that aree before but would love to check out the ones the locals rate highly.

  12. I started on a 250, but then that was in the UK where there is a tiered system. I didn't have a choice at the time, 250 was the largest displacement allowed for a learner. Later the maximum displacement for a learner went down to 125. It is totalitarian, yes, but there are a lot of good capable riders in the UK because of it... and some tasty smaller displacement bikes.

    Okay, I confess, my first 250 was an RD250 (two stroke) - a little different from a Ninja 250. I've ridden my nephew's Ninja 250 though and it really was a lot of fun. Wringing that thing out down on OH-255 would be fantastic fun.
