  1. That's called a TV cable. There should be a spot on the linkage of the carb for it to bolt on.

    Sounds more like a vacuum leak to me. I've had timing 180 off plenty of times, and I've never had it backfire through the exhaust. I have had a nice vacuum leak on the EGR valve, which would do exactly what he said. The car would start, and run, but if you got it over 2k rpm it would backfire. Piston/valve theory sounds extreme, I don't think it would be that. On a side note: check to make sure you have the kit to prevent the power valve from being blown.     Do you have EGR? Is there a massive leak under the EGR valve?
  13. Talk to Erv (1bad66duce). He probably has a couple. If you want the van to be fast pick up a set of AFR's. They're not cheap, but they flow.
  14. Don't really have a reason for you (I'm far from an expert on manuals), but if you ever need a hand you know who to call.
  15. If you pull the heads buy a real set (read: AFR). The string method is old school as hell and should work pretty well. Pulling the heads on a SBC is about the simplest thing you can do, you shouldn't have a problem.
