What certification do you need to have? If the group you run with will accept FIA certs those are good for 5 years as opposed to 2 years for SFI. I run Schroths and have been very happy with them. I believe our uses are different, but the info should still apply.

Have EBC Greens on my current daily. They're ok, nothing to write home about, but get the job done. I used EBC Yellows as track pads for the M3 a long time ago and while they handled the heat well they had zero feel and were like bricks with on/off switches. Would not recommend for high performance application. +1 on the fluid flush/bleed

interesting...need to be 25 years old to do that? I'd like to do that with my FD.

High HP Street cars: Toyo R888 vs M/T ET Street Radial II
Smokey replied to JuicedH22's topic in Passing Lane
I can't speak for the M/T but I see the R888 as a bad choice for that application. They won't be up to temp regularly driving on the street, have stiff sidewalls, and are loud as crap. So they won't ride well and won't stick. Track guys would consider them a downgrade from your RA1s. -
:lolguy: That's about the truth. I'll probably hold onto it too long and when I go to sell and it's worth nothing I'll bitch and moan and keep it. The thing costs more money to keep going than I care to think about sometimes though. By the time my son would get the car it'll be so completely janky nobody in their right mind would ride in it.

This. 4 more years until my FD is worth dirt because all of the kids want a $6k right hand drive bucket of crap fresh off the boat.
-
Looks clean as crap. Nice pick up. I'm assuming its legal to bring here because its 25 years old?

You're definitely going to want to sit in and drive as many examples of these as possible, because there are certainly some factors that are hard to define with words. Interior is a good one that comes to mind. Audi will blow all others away in this dept with BMW, VW, and Acura coming in close behind. Any of the domestic vehicles in your price range are going to likely suffer in that dept. Driving/road manners will change with each as well. The GMs definitely drive like the trucks they are which is good or bad depending on how you want to use it. If you don't need to tow, then the v6 engine versions will get better mileage, but suffer on power if that bothers you. I was dead set on getting a Tahoe for my next vehicle because it would tow and do everything I wanted. The older ones 02-06 are tanks and with the 5.3L will pull whatever you want. The downside is that the interior is definitely from a 90s truck and NOT AVAILABLE IN BLACK! I honestly can't believe that a manufacturer in 2006 would offer a vehicle aimed at families that you can't get with a black interior. The other issue I ran into was that in the near Columbus market, all of the examples I ran into were rusty 90-110k mile hunks that dealers still wanted $13-$16k for. 07+ Tahoes are great with a MUCH better interior but all but the high milers will be out of your price range and the Active Fuel Management (AFM) has caused a lot of oil burning issues with the 5.3L motors if you look it up online. A good friend of mine has an 07 Sierra with AFM issues and it now burns over a quart of oil every 1k miles.

That sounds nice. I've been getting 14 in my Saab

nobody! and it'd be a great swap candidate. There are a couple of off the shelf options for mounts and headers to swap it out there. A buddy of mine is considering putting an aluminum 5.3L into his.

I spent a decent amount of time looking at SUVs that could serve as dual-duty for towing (5k lbs) and a daily which limited my choices somewhat. What will you primarily be doing with it? How much weight do you need it to tow? How many people/how much stuff do you need it to hold? If I hadn't been right up against the towing capacity, I would have likely gone with an 07+ MDX. They made them bigger than the older models, have plenty of features, and while the V6 doesn't get great mileage, it will usually be better than the V8 counter parts. If you're towing 4klbs or less then I would check one out.

Thanks, but no trades. I've already purchased the replacement for this vehicle.

Oh yeah. The downside....shits heavy! Not really a good track jack although I've definitely taken it before.
-
I have the jack posted and paid more like $125 for it, so this is a screaming deal. It's been great for me and never missed a beat. The other great thing is that I has over 2" more lift height than the light aluminum ones which I needed for a couple of cars I work on. The bigger wheels are also much less prone to get stuck causing the car to go up at funny angles which happens to the aluminum ones if there's on piece of dog hair to roll over.

Doh. I just ordered a P2 that will be here Friday. Wish I would have seen this sooner. Good luck with the sale.

While it's not preferred to take tires to them you didn't buy there, it's certainly not out of the question. I think that Derek will show you good enough service that you can reward him with other business in his store. I'm guilty of doing the same because (like an awesome business) sometimes he'll admit that what i'm looking for can be better found somwhere else. Then I bring him crappy fluid changes, picky alignments, and horrible tire-flips to reward that loalty...hahaha :dumb:

HA! He doesn't want to touch the Rx7. Plus I've got 2 other cars lined up for details and 22PLE before the winter for him anyway.

Car received a fresh oil change this weekend along with the squeaky hood struts greased so they don't make any more noise. I also greased the brake pads as the HPS's were being slightly squeaky.

My in-laws have a 740 area code number and live in Lewis Center. So I guess I know a bit about that 740...probably more than those tweakers who don't know it covers a bunch of suburbia.

Monday morning bump. I've had a couple of lookers, but no takers so far.

^^Pretty much if we keep on our current track.

In Billy Madison terms we are the O'Doyle family

Thanks guys. I did drive this car the first winter I had it which fortunately wasn't a bunch. I had a 2nd set of wheels with winter tires on them and the car did just fine. Even though I cringe at the thought of rusty bodies, with a set of dedicated snow tires this car would be quite capable in the snow...just beware of pushing snow with the front during heavy snow...hahaha.

Oil pump nut has not been done. That's probably the only preventative thing that hasn't been done to the car. I knew I'd forget some things since I've lived with the car for so long. Heated manual vader seats, but the driver's side element does not work. Passenger's side goes strong. It's been that way since i bought it and never bothered me since I didn't drive it in the winter.
