I am willing to bet that if he was at the track and we prepped a ZX10 and a GSXR1000 the same way and even offered to help dial it in for him, he'd go faster on the GSXR easily. Trust me on the chatter - he's going to feel it and it is going to cause MAJOR distrust in the bike. Especially at Mid-Ohio. You don't need to be Spies to get it to chatter... It is a characterisitic of that frame design that causes that to happen at the point of pushing hard. The amount of chatter at that level is greater obviously, but the chatter will present itself at even lower levels of ability... MIGHT be able to dial it out slightly, but I bet I can get him to have it happen with a few sessions on the bike... Even if not, the GSXR is a better and more agile package. It just is.

Questions for you about the 4 Japanese Sport Bikes
Moto-Brian replied to DTM Brian's topic in Daily Ride
This is like an oil thread, but here goes... One thing to consider is what each person uses a bike for. Street? Track Days? Racing? Drag Racing? You get the idea... For me, it is racing on a road course. That seems at this point to fall in two classes. 600s and 1000s... Typically, it is based on who pays the most. That has usually been Suzuki in the liter classes and Yamahas in the 600 classes. The 600s: Yamaha right now and for the last few years is the seemingly bike of choice. They handle great, are easy to race prep and have a great package overall. Suzuki this year and last seem to have something competitive with their 600, but it has usually been a turd for the last few... Kawasaki has a decent bike, but it is plagued with handling issues and unless you are a guy that has all three for chasing money, they are usually the third choice. Nobody races a Honda so, they haven't been a thought since the F3 days... Suzuki and Yamaha are the top two in liter bikes. Suzuki has the most and honestly, is the best package so far. A lot of guys wispering about the BMW and a lot of guys excited about the R1, but the Zook is solid, hanldes great, gets great power with little effort and the cost input is pretty low for the return. HOWEVER, this year is the year that the OEMs are pretty much not paying a dime to win anything and most guys are sitting on couches unless they have a contract and are paid to race. That means a few brands are showing interest like KTM and BMW that are paying decent. The issue is parts and setup - not a lot of guys race them and therefore, setup is nowhere to be found... Starting new is tough and it makes it a deal where more would come if the setup is found to be solid and a proven winner. Locally at certain regional events? You see BMWs and KTMs kicking everyone's asses. But, spread that out further and you'll see Yamaha and Suzuki doing the normal thing they typically do. Bottom line for me: 600: Yamaha R6 1000: Suzuki GSXR -
He doesn't have enough experience... Even a seasoned veteran racer would have a tough time keeping up on a ZX14... Plus, at Mid-Ohio, believe it or not, it is easier to ride a 600 faster around the track than a 1000...

A few things to consider. One, you're looking at a sketch. Be real... Second, Kawi has always had a motor. No doubt. However, the chassis developement team as of late has either been trying real hard at sucking donkey nuts or has been really missing the point. Steal a fucking Suzuki, Yamaha, or even a Honda and copy the damn thing for Christ sake. The thing needs a frame before anything else and until that happens, it ain't gonna mean shit. Now, as Nick stated, a street guy doesn't care nor is the street guy going to notice the chatter that plagues the ZX10. On a final note about all this track racing and shit, come on down and I will ride a stock 600 (My choice) and you can run a stock ZX10 (your choice) and we can decide it then. Or, to be perfectly fair, I choose the 1000 I want to ride (stock) and ride a new ZX10 (current model) and I will try my hardest to ride as hard and equally on each bike. Brand other than Kawasaki is going to lap faster.

He's talking a real racetrack - not a drag strip...
-
I wouldn't go that far, but I will say to everyone shouting out that their torque numbers are higher... This thing is a razor blade compared to the dull, plastic spork in terms of handling vs. these higher torqued bikes you all are comparing it to...

Drove one of these (same year) in anger and when shifted into 5th at triple digits, it pulled me into the seat... Car is fucking awesome. Killa price. Now if I can only find enough expendable cash...

100% truth.

What I meant about "building it a little", I meant the head and doing a valve job, etc. Dependable, but better... Not a race build...
-
Did you replace the top end? Valves, keepers, shims, etc.? Cam chain, guides, etc.? Tranny components? Shifter forks, rod, etc.? May have someone interested, but the price is a little steep... Let me know on the details I asked about...
-
True, but even before the economy took a dump, they have been "middle of the road" on everything... They need to go back and revisit these types of machines and start fresh...
-
Saw this on the WERA board and thought to share. Shows back then the passion Honda had towards it's motorcycles. Maybe they need to revisit and try again on something... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iO9YVYg4FyU

How many miles on the odometer and why was the motor a complete rebuild? Also, why not build it slightly since you were in there? Also, are all the bearings in the chassis new and or have been gone through? STeering stem, swingarm pivot, etc?

You're not dealing with a rep. You're dealing with someone from a shop or business that buys directly from Oakley. You have an obvious military or police discount and they are allowing you to buy as you wish. You are abusing the system that has been setup by Oakley, but it takes two to get that accomplished and they obviously are willing to do so. It's no biggie. You mentioned something and I simply was making sure people knew that Oakleys are sold at a certain margin and you are what the difference is - rather, what you buy them for. I suspect in this case, fashion wear styles are less of a discount... Might be wrong on that. Anyways, carry on. Oh, and watch your mouth.
-
All I am saying is that Oakleys are at a set margin. In other words, his discount is what is different per style - not what the company he is getting them through pays. He stated that he can get up to 45% off. If that is on current glasses, that's not below or at dealer cost. I don't really care. I was just saying to him that the dealer cost is set at a certain %. I know what that is. He, on the other hand told me I was wrong. I am not. Go about what you are all doing. I get Oakleys cheaper anyways.

Stock on at least the GSXRs and most the other modern bikes I have seen have different height stacks. Usually taller in the middle... I have to agree it is due to the fact that the outside edges are closer to the top or lid of the airbox and are shorter to compensate. Guys "tune" with different heights, but again, it is minimal and usually a wasted expense unless you are a full blown race motor and fighting for the top rung on the ladder in a National setting. Everyone else? Run 'em stock.
-
You really wanna argue this? Are you sure you do? The margins are the same. Your discount may be different. Margin is the difference between dealer cost and retail. Again, differences in audio product and RX... And specialty stuff like the high end stuff, but all the glasses typically worn and purchased falls under the same margin line.

My guess is he isn't going to post in the thread anymore. I also am guessing that he has his tail between his legs and is muttering "Holy Shitballs."

Find me a bike to ride yet? -
It was probably Lenny (not Kenny) that you worked with. He's the shiznit. Don't tell him I said that as his head will get larger than it already is... But, Chris and Lenny are some stand up guys on that end of the store and will do the right thing. Was that Justin's dad's old bike?
-
No it doesn't. Oakleys have the same margins no matter what the style. With exception to audio based glasses and RX...

If you hit dirt and it was enough to push you wide and off the road, you were either flying at a high rate of speed or you target fixed, tensed up and went off the road... Farmers aren't to blame. Knowing your surroundings is what you need to keep in mind. It is farm season where they are maintaining fields. Not really a lot of them in and out of fields other than fertilizer rigs. So, it could have been construction, etc. You also need to understand that it has been VERY wet lately and anything off a paved surface is going to bring up mud onto the surface. The law is that if debris comes off a truck from poor loading, etc. Not from wheels and coming off the paved surface onto the paved road... I understand you being upset and being angry, but don't blame the farmers for rider error...

It handles really well - transitions left and right like a 600... Power is a little lower than what I am used to with the 1000 as it is bone stock. I will be racing it at VMD and the AMA Pro Am event in stock form, too. Not sure how I will fair, but it goes well and I might not do too badly on it...

1st Annual MSF Instructor Track Day @ Nelson Ledges
Moto-Brian replied to Sniper_308's topic in Events
Considering they are allowing "riding jeans", I would suspect it is a totally casual track event. Nothing like what you guys typically expect or have experienced. Plus, at $125, why would you go up if you can ride the typical FT track day and get what you are expecting? Weird...
