  1. should redline at about 15,500 if memory serves. It won't exactly be bogging at 10k :-D
  2. I bet a drag-race proves you wrong. If you're not in a drag race, then you're right in the sense that it's unnecessary, but I only use the clutch from 1-2, or under light acceleration.
  3. What's your number, and what classes are you racing? We can catch your times for $.99 http://forums.13x.com/showthread.php?t=308698 (I have the free version of this app for checking my OMRL times. It's easy to use in free format. Worth the $.99 if you have any inclination to check your own times)
  4. I have a 2007 Hyundai (not the newest generation), and we had the new model as a rental. Worlds better. The 6-speed automatic in the new model makes the I-4 model as quick as my V6 model with the 4-speed auto. I wish I had that transmission. The Sante Fe/Sorento is pretty damn big for the money. One of my best friends has a decked-out Sorento, and his brother has a (nearly) base-model Sante Fe of the same year. The major differences are the interiors (leather versus cloth, 3rd row seat, etc.) and the decked-out model as 4wd. But I'm betting the options cost him $10k, and the "base" model is still a nice place to sit for 400 miles.
  5. this. I was going to suggest a buddy of mine who works at a Chevy dealership if CarWhore can't come through. I am usually really against paying new car pricing, but the "entry-level" cars have come up quite a bit in quality, and they're better on gas. I was looking at swapping my '05 Altima for a 2013 Chevy Sonic. The sonic is (obviously) much smaller, but it was also going to do 12mpg better (if not a lot more), and would have had a nicer interior. With the trade-in factored in, my payment was going to be like $200/month... I could save almost that much in gas. In fact, a friend of mine traded his lifted wrangler for a new Dart and actually saves more in gas than his payment costs him. My humble opinion is that Americans are starting to catch up with the rest of the world as far as vehicle mentality: 1 "large" vehicle to tote the family around, and 1 compact vehicle (or motorcycle) for dad to commute on. I think we're also getting to the point where people are more inclined to push their vehicle's limits rather than buy more than they need. (Ever seen the Top Gear where they pull a small RV with a diesel Kia wagon?) The days of the conversion van and the dually are numbered. At least for the non-commercial market. I'm not against large vehicles for people who actually need them, I just think it's silly to have a huge daily driver unless you're legitimately using it to tow a fifth-wheel, or plow all winter, or whatever. /rant
  6. shit - just folded up the trailer and took off the wheel-chocks yesterday. Let me know if you're really in a pinch. I was planning on leaving my trailer folded and stored until the August OMRL round, but it's not that big of a hassle to set it up for 1 bike...
  7. Leave your foot on the rear brake. I always preferred to shake out my right hand whenever possible on street rides. Buzzy parallel twin...
  8. good to know. For some reason I thought they did 30 minute sessions and just had a race group, and then everyone else. Or maybe that just happened to be the informal policy that developed last time I was there on a Monday and there were no novices(?)
  9. I'm trying to think of a compliment that can't be construed as disrespectful ...I'll report back if I think of anything.
  10. a high center of gravity isn't the worst thing in the world. Ever tried to balance a bat upright on your palm? It's MUCH easier to do so with the heavy end up than with the handle up. Obviously that's not a perfect analogy for how a motorcycle handles, but a center of gravity that is "too" high is easier to ride than one that is too low. Too low makes the bike very difficult to turn. That was actually a major problem on motoGP bikes at one point. The engineers were applying car geometry (where lower CoG is better) to a motorcycle chassis. The effects on the bike were disastrous.
  11. Where did anyone advocate for legislation requiring more safety gear? I believe the point was that it's irresponsible of the magazine to promote unsafe riding practices, not that it is or should be illegal to do so.
  12. I don't think they run a novice group at the Monday events.
  13. The 12 looks and sounds great! ...now why aren't you racing the YSR?
  14. Sounds like the driver was at fault for the accident, but the rider was at fault for the severity. Strapping his helmet might have saved his life.
  15. that's a funny way of phrasing it, and certainly not literally what he meant. My guess is that if you were really a danger, they would definitely not have 'rewarded' bad behavior by moving you up to Advanced. Contrary to what was said, I'd bet you were following all the passing rules, and still getting through traffic without issue.
  16. so what does she look like when she's not posing for a magazine cover?
  17. which is awesome ...but 97% of cases don't make it to the end of trial.
  18. Awesome racing yesterday. Pretty much perfect weather too. I got caught in a monsoon on the drive home though. There was flooding on the highway so bad that the water was up to the DECK of my trailer at one point. (this was at like 11:30 at night. I didn't go straight home from the track) I also think I won the second XR heat! (I'll just pretend it wasn't because the two fastest novices weren't there) and i got down to 1:01.11x in the clockwise direction. My previous best was a 1:04 or something. Counter-clockwise, I had done a 1:01.7x, so it's good to be getting up to speed in both directions. Not sure what happened at the start of the last F4 race. I am 100% confident that I gridded where the sheet said I should, but I was moved from the inside of row 3 to the outside of row 3. I'm wondering if the grid wasn't changed/updated while I was racing XR and then corner-working NSR. I never came back into the pits, but I had made a point of etching my grid positions into my brain BECAUSE I knew I wasn't going to be able to check between races... Oh well. Hopefully the starter wasn't too pissed at me.
  19. The problem has never been high-performance motorcycles; it has always been low-performance riders.
  20. The only problem I foresee is that fans do not reduce humidity. 75 and humid still feels like 85. AC pumps in dry air. I'm all for saving money, but sleeping well is worth more to me. I run the AC any time it's muggy at night. Otherwise, windows open all day, and closed at night. The "basement" of our split-level is easily 10 degrees cooler than the rest of the house anyway. Just hang there during the day if its that bad. Nothing the dogs haven't figured out.
  21. Damn. I was supposed to be riding the XR at Beaver today, but the weather killed that plan. This makes it even worse! Looking good on the NSR Ryan.
  22. Congratulations. I'm sharing this thread with the dog rescues I'm facebook friends with. I think they'll benefit from the feedback about the "background check" process. No one wants to be chasing off good owners.
  23. I don't just have a degree. I'm a licensed attorney. The difference is significant And I doubt there's an Ohio Riders discount, but it would bode well for the site for Mr. Castelli to see a return on his advertising investment. Plus he should be VERY motivated to impress a member with great service when he knows many of us will hear about it.
  24. You can contact the Columbus Bar Association and ask them for a list of attorneys who practice in personal injury law, and don't get complaints. The site sponsor, Mr. Castelli would also be a good place to start. Depending on the facts of your case, you may not need "the best" personal injury attorney. "The best" is debateable, and "the best" will charge you more than someone who is still good enough to win. My experience is limited to criminal law, but I have friends who do personal injury work. I can give you their contact information if you want it. And don't get down on attorneys who have TV commercials. If they can afford TV advertising, they're winning a lot of cases. The firm may give you the option of paying their hourly rate, or they may set you up with a contingent fee agreement. Typically attorneys get 30% of any settlements, and 40% of any judgments (actually making it to or through trial takes a lot more time, and thus, more money).
