  1. it was also never less fair.
  2. being shot while committing the crime is different than condemning him to death. That's legitimately self-defense or defense of others. I have no moral issue with that, because it logically stands to prevent greater harm. I don't see how executing him now prevents any potential harm. I should clarify that I may even agree that he deserves to die; I just don't think we as a society should kill him.
  3. Visit the Typing Test and try! I could probably do a bit better if I tried multiple times and had the laptop on a solid surface, but I usually count on 60-70 wpm. Apparently I could get more like 75 if decent conditions.
  4. HA!! The death penalty strings out the process by DECADES. This kid will have exhausted his appeals within a couple of years. capital cases are a huge waste of time and money. Eliminating the death penalty would be a huge cost saver.
  5. While I understand the hatred toward TJ Lane, I think it's highly hypocritical to wish death upon him. TJ Lane hated a handful of classmates. As a result, he killed three of them and paralyzed one. The only thing that separates monsters like him from the rest of civilized society is our restraint. We hate TJ Lane, therefore he deserves to die? Sounds a lot like his logic, and not very civilized at all. Lock him up and don't let him out. Killing him doesn't bring anyone back, it just makes us as bad as he is. Besides, killing him would only end his suffering. I'd much rather he lives long enough to really grasp what he's done, and live with that kind of remorse. That's punishment. Killing him is just revenge. I'm sure many of you will disagree.
  6. Don't touch the little punks. Just start taking video of their faces and show the cops after the fact. No point in exposing yourself to a battery claim or unlawful imprisonment. Now if they take your phone, then You can use reasonable force to recapture your property, so long as you are in "hot pursuit." (You can't see the kid the next day an then beat his ass, but you can as long as its all one continuous incident)
  7. I'm confident his whole persona is an act. If he has ANY hope of staying alive in prison, he will learn to fly under the radar. This kid really is dilusional. He still doesn't seem to grasp that he isn't some kind of hero for bullied kids. "The rest of his life" won't be that long.

    22LR Rounds

Doesn't everyone keep 5,000 rounds of 22lr in their sock drawer?
  9. We blew off painting and bike work and got wasted for St. Pat's day instead.
  10. I was trying to convince a friend of mine to test drive the celoster turbo this past weekend. He bought a Dart turbo instead. It's an "okay" car. Not very quick, but neat features on the 8.4" screen. I would have at least driven the celoster with a manual first. You can't find darts with the turbo AND a manual. The dual clutch automatic isn't bad, but man is that 1.4 liter a slug off boost.
  11. Thanks for the info. That makes me feel better about offering to look at it. Like I said, this guy is more of an a quaintance than a friend, so I don't want to step on his toes by taking over his project, but he also mentioned he's never even ridden on the highway, so I'm assuming he isn't an experienced rider or mechanic and will appreciate the help. I may price out the parts mentioned above and give him a rough estimate of what kind of expenses he's looking at.
  12. cool bike. pretty impressive power for the size and age too. I keep debating whether I want another EX500, or something like this, that is a bit heavier, slower (only a 5 speed), and probably doesn't brake or handle as well, but is so much cooler. I wouldn't go full on cafe racer on it, but I'd probably make some minor cosmetic tweaks to modernize it a bit. Paint the front fender, install sleeker turn signals, and maybe see what options are available. Pod filters would clean up the air box area too. Maybe see if there are brake upgrade options that retain the spoke wheel. LBTS. GLWS.
  13. An acquaintance of mine had an electrical fire in his '71 CB750. This was last summer, and the bike has been in his basement since then. I offered to take a look, but if it's as bad as he says, I'm thinking of suggesting that he just buy a 'new' wiring harness. Does anyone have experience with wiring a bike, or this bike in particular? The extent of my work on motorcycle electrical systems is limited to unplugging the fuel injection bits on a 600RR and pulling the throttle bodies to swap cables. if the fire damage is limited to one area (he said his battery "exploded"), could we just solder in new sections of wire, tape it up, and replace the bad part? If so, what gauge wire would be appropriate?
  14. Pauly does good work. But don't be afraid of taking the wheels off your bike. I'm mostly unemployed right now, and very bored. If you want help taking off your wheels, the most it would cost you is the price of sockets that are bigger than my current selection. Then you can buy your tires online and take them anywhere you want. Or buy spoons and mount them yourself.
  15. P.s. wear gloves. I crashed at 25 mph or less, and my glove looked terrible. I'd be seeing bone without it.
  16. Just another 100, but it's 7 years newer. The main differences (only differences) between our bikes were that his tires are a lot bigger. He's running BT45's and I have much smaller ML75's. Jb is also 20 lbs lighter though. We both had stock gearing.
  17. Whatever you end up with, I would ditch the ramp gate. They kill fuel economy. An aluminum ramp works fine and is easy to pack with bungy cords.
  18. Crashed the XR on its maiden voyage in race trim. Superficial damage to me (sprained thumb) and basically no damage to the bike. Wish I had a street bike today. Instead I have a tall drink.
  19. Bike ran effing great. I'm undecided on the tires. Hoblick got in my head! All I could picture while cornering was the sidewall of my tire buckling! I crashed pretty hard about an hour into play time. Somehow my left thumb took the worst of it. It's pretty swollen, but I still have almost full range of motion, just with a bit of pain. Looking at my glove, I might not have a thumb to be icing right now if not for armored gloves. I bounced my head off the ground lightly too. Another helmet bites the dust. Oh well. I had a (new) spare in the car and went right back to gooning it up before my thumb had a chance to start hurting too badly. GPS confirms my bike hit 43mph with the stock 50 tooth rear sprocket. I have a 48 on the work bench that will go on with the new chain. Should be good for over 45! I'm also happy to report that my bike (2000) was wheel to wheel with my buddy's 2007 CRF through all 5 gears. We drag raced with both of us starting in 2nd gear. Any slight advantage he had could be chalked up to him being lighter. Fun day, even with the crash. Bike was totally damage free, just a scrape on the exhaust system I just painted. Figures.
  20. beat up F2's go for $600, but in decent shape, I've seen them grab over $2,000... I sold mine for $1500. I think it would be a good deal for both sides involved if you ended up with a nice low mileage 250. You'd be making out like a bandit if you can snag a 2008 or newer model. Someone who has 500 miles under their belt will be crazy about getting a 600 in April. You'll find a straight-up trade and come out ahead. What would you want in cash for the F2?
  21. If you're looking for a kid-friendly .22lr handgun, the Ruger Bearcat has a really small frame. My uncle has one for his grandkids. It's not too small for an adult to shoot, but if you'll be the primary user, the Single Six (or the Single Ten) is more ideal, and you can buy them with a .22 magnum cylinder as well. What I really like about the Single Six: - accurate - fun - single-action and 6 shot cylinder slows me down and makes ammo last longer. - the one I shoot with my uncle belonged to my grandfather. But even without the sentimental value, they're a ton of fun. Heritage arms makes less expensive copies of the Single Six. Not sure on the Bearcat.
  22. well, everything except the new chain and sprockets is installed, and for the first time since I brought it home, it's all in one piece. I'm getting a lot of valve or cam-chain noise. doing a shake down tomorrow, and then I'll tear it back open again to take care of the engine noises. I'm just excited to actually be able to ride the damn thing for more than 10 minutes.
  23. I like to joke about Harley's sucking, but I AM joking. There are a lot of legitimate gripes to make about them when compared to other makes, but HD's marketing department has done a good job of making people not care. I think that's silly, but it's not my call, nor my problem. I do think people should back off ripping on Harley's if they haven't actually ridden one, let alone owned one. I haven't owned one. I've ridden Harleys on a handful of occasions, but never for any extended period of time. It's not my thing. But the Yamahar Raider I rode wasn't my thing either. 1800cc's, and it was BARELY faster (in a straight line) than the EX500 I rode to the demo event. It braked like shit (heavier, but still only a single disk up front), handled like the wheelbase was 9 feet (it was probably close to that...), and I just am not a foot-forward controls guy. I like that HD is made in the USA, and that the XR1200 series is close racing. That's about all I really feel strongly about with harleys. The rest is just jokes.
  24. You need someone with a 7x24 enclosed, set up to haul a race car. Then just stick the bike in front of it and take one trip. The only people I know with trailers that big are NESBA directors from out of state... Hauling a car is no joke though. What tow vehicle are you planning to use? Unless its a pretty damn big truck, you're going to want trailer brakes with 4,000 lbs. behind you... Is the car not running? I looked into using a tow-bar or car dolly to pull my wife's Neon home from Philadelphia when she was moving back. The equipment cost and lost gas mileage made it cheaper to just drive both vehicles back.
  25. The driver's still screwed. Fault is determined in a court of law, not a court of fair, or a court of what the other party should have done.
