  1. My bike insurance covers a ton of personal injury for me and my passengers. This is also why I carry a lot of uninsured/under-insured motorist coverage. Suddenly $300/year doesn't sound so bad when it takes away the financial strain for something like this. /rant.
  2. The personal growing provision is very vague though. You have to obtain a "license" to grow, but I could not find where that procedure was outlined. Do you still support the issue if the personal grower license proves to be exceedingly difficult to obtain? I'm still undecided on Issue 3, or at least wavering in my leanings...
  3. While I agree with your sentiment, how confident are you that there will be a "next try" any time in the near future?
  4. Did I miss a for sale thread on the VFR?
  5. Yeah, that occurred to me. I was thinking I would build a platform to stand it on and put it a foot off the floor, but even just the humidity down there makes me nervous right now. Guest room is the front-runner if the wife poo-poo's our walk-in closet. But then I have another issue when we have a second kid, and the guest room becomes a kid's room. I'll figure out something. just have to know which room is going to stay a kid's room forever, and which room will stay an office forever.
  6. i shouldn't even ask, but how much for the spare 'bike?'
  7. If that's true then it eliminates a negligence per se argument, and weakens any negligence arguments against the rider. I think the reason this debate is spiraling is because we're trying to address too many questions at the same time. The driver of the car is clearly committing a crime. I don't think anyone is contesting that. His civil liability (as I intended to point out in my earlier post) is more of a question of fact, and as a result, a more interesting question (to me). Whether or not the rider was committing a crime is (apparently) at issue. If he wasn't exceeding teh speed limit and could safely complete a pass around the car, then he may not be committing a crime. Whether or not he could safely see far enough and complete the passing maneuver are factual issues that a jury would decide though.
  8. some of you are blurring the lines between criminal and civil actions. Civil actions to show negligence can be contested based on contributory or comparative negligence. I honestly don't know which theory ohio employs, because I don't practice civil law. There's also been some description of "negligence per se" (although not by name). What that means is that when a person is breaking a law that is intended to protect the type and class of person injured by the actual violation of that law, the law-breaker is automatically deemed "negligent" in a civil setting. That doesn't apply in criminal cases. The most likely way that woudl come into play is if the passenger on the motorcycle sues the 'driver' of the motorcycle. He was making an illegal pass, and his passenger is arguably of the type and class of person no-passing laws are designed to protect.
  9. I think that's going to be this guy's defense. "I never even saw the motorcycle until after it hit me. I was swerving to avoid something in the road."
  10. Half the speed limit or less, and the overtaking vehicle can pass the slower vehicle without exceeding the speed limit, and complete the pass in a safe manner. That didn't look applicable here.
  11. as of 7:48 this morning, the cabinet is ready for pick up. I will get it after work tonight, and then leave it in the car until we move on Saturday. Realistically, I won't get it together until Sunday I want to put it together tonight, but i think leaving it packaged for the move will be smarter, and this way I can decide where I want to install it permanently from day one. It is larger than I had pictured. 55" high, and about the width of the 'fridge' half of a side-by-side refrigerator, which may push it out of the master bedroom closet. Having it hidden away in our office/guest room may be more secure and keep it off my wife's mind anyway. the alternative is to keep it in the basement. That would definitely keep it off the missus' radar, but it creates accessibility issues in an emergency situation... I'm a little torn.
  12. This is an interesting case to me. It's a unique scenario where the criminal fault seems clear, but the civil liability will be murky. Or perhaps it won't - I'm not licensed in Texas, but in a civil suit, there's a much more compelling argument for "he shouldn't have been making an illegal pass in the first place." That's far less relevant in a criminal action. Rob Christian is in fact a DA in Texas. http://www.txdirectory.com/online/person/?id=13772
  13. Don't you think that a rock capable of puncturing the metal was going to destroy the plastic grille anyway? I would expect the intercooler to be dented and full of bugs eventually, but a puncture would take something pretty significant that was going to ruin your day regardless...
  14. I'm not sure I'm in love either, but it's more airflow... that's probably more necessary here than in other applications.
  15. "fuzz buster" is such a dumb nickname to me... In fact, I question the usefulness of any device that is designed to alert you that you've already been targeted by a speed-detection device. It's basically just an early notification that you're already fucked.
  16. The dyno sheet may change my tune (pun intended), but I really don't like the intake noise spoiling that exhaust note. Plus it puts EVERYONE on notice of what's happening under the hood. Less fun than surprising people
  17. The Si 4-door will probably the hardest to find. My brother looked for months to get a 4-door GTI. same scenario.
  18. so is the R6 for sale, or are you just looking for variety? I know it's not uncommon to have multiple track bikes, but usually it's either so one can be a "backup" bike, or so that the rider can be competitive in multiple race classes. Do either apply here?
  19. yeah, but up to 9 over is a 0 point violation in a 55 zone. you can only be 4 over if for a 0 point violation if the speed limit is below 55.
  20. i don't recall my insurance rates going up when I got tagged for 79(?) in a 60. Now since I totaled the Nissan, yeah, my rates have gone up a tad... I never mentioned the ticket to my insurance company though. I'm not sure how they would have even known about it.
  21. not trying to be a "hater." Trying not to admit this though
  22. yeah, i figured "16 is way more than I need, but i have other 'stuff' I'd like to put in there." Ammo. a little cash. My grandfather's retirement watch (nothing valuable, but it means something to me).
  23. The exhaust does sound awesome. Procharger may add a little whine, but i think you'll learn to live with that!
  24. what's the big deal with 2 points? You already got a bunch?
