  1. People Eating Tasty Animals? You think they want some Opossum Stew?
  2. Years ago, I was taking my wife (girlfriend at the time) for a ride on my dad's '86 Intercepter 500, and caught a robin in the chest at 60. Talk about a nasty bruise! That experience turned her off of motorcycles for years, lol! She said it was one of those things that you don't think about even as a possibility until it happens.
  3. I know on the VStars, the pipes will blue due to heat from running too lean. With The air box removed, the carb is able to pull much more air than with the airbox installed, and the mixture is leaning out. Lean mixture will cause your fast idle and your hot pipe. A quick check to see if you're lean is with the filter and housing off of the carb, take some tape and tape off about 3/4 of the carb throat, effectively "choking" the airflow the carb can pull. The reduced airflow should help richen your mixture, and let you see if you've worked out the warm flooding issue before you put the airbox back on.
  4. So I was running down a back road on my way to work this morning at a reasonable, but none the less super legal speed, when this furry thing darted from the side of the road just in front me. I saw it just long enough to register that it was an opossum, and I was going to hit it. I braced for the inevitable impact, and was pleasantly surprised to find the impact wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. I felt the front tire hit, then I guess it kicked off of my fender, then the bottom of my frame and right floor board. When I realized for sure I wasn't going to wreck, I checked the mirror and saw the oversize rat tumbling down the road and back into the ditch. I rode on in to work, and haven't checked the bike for any carnage yet... Just glad to be able to continue the ride with no big issues. Fat tires, full fenders, and a heavy bike FTW! It got me thinking though, this is the first (ground based) animal I've hit in all my years of riding, what have you guys hit on your bike, and how did it turn out? I know Kawi Kid bagged himself a deer, hopefully he's in the minority.
  5. "The driver of the van, William Solomon, 67, of Baltimore, was transported by Lancaster medics to Fairfield Medical Center where he was treated and released." Not fair.
  6. Loosen up both cables at the front of the carb, and see if they free up any. I monkeyed with mine last time I pulled the carbs, and found that they were badly out of adjustment on the carb end. Loosened both ends, set the carb end where it needed to be, and used the adjuster at the bar end to tweak the tension.
  7. I've never considered putting apes on my bike... Do you know how tall they are? Throwing in the longer cables too? I might be swayed to give apes a shot, how much do you want for them?
  8. The VStar is a nice bike. Simple, reliable, easy to mod to suit your tastes. I've had 3 now. What pipes are those?
  9. I rode to work this morning...
  10. I live in a subdivision about halfway between Maineville and Morrow, and about 6 miles South of Lebanon. I like Maineville, and there are several areas in and around Maineville that are pretty nice, but there really isn't much there. In Maineville proper, there is a fire dept., police dept., two pumper gas station, and a veterinarian. Maineville addresses extend several miles down toward Montgomery and Loveland. I can tell you that after having lived here for a few years, I'm sorry that I didn't look harder at Lebanon. It's almost right in the middle between Cincinnati and Dayton, with relatively easy access to both, has a nice historic downtown area, and nice homes for all budgets. If they've not considered Lebanon, they really should, when coming down 71, it is about the same distance North on 48 that Maineville is South.
  11. Had my appendix out last week, and I was itching to go for a ride within 48 hours. The wife took my keys.
  12. I think I saw you at Powder Keg last night! Didn't know you were on ORDN or I would have said hey. I stopped in with my kids last night on the way home to drool over the showroom candy for a little while. Congrats on the purchase!
  13. Excellent program! Find yourself a Financial Peace University program to join, I'm sure there is a church somewhere near you that runs the class every once in a while. My church has two FPU facilitators, and runs a new class 2-3 times a year. It's 12 weeks, and is usually done once a week. With the exception of our house and regular monthly bills, my wife and I are debt free for 4 years now. It's a great feeling!
  14. That was a cool read. Makes me want to strike out and see where the road goes!
  15. I rode to work this morning, it was 34* when I left the house. I've found that I can ride comfortably in my cold weather gear (if its dry) down to 19* on my ride to and from work. My commute is 18 miles combined city/hwy and usually takes about a half hour. Rain doesn't bother me unless it is colder than ~ 45*, Then it sucks. It won't stop me, but it still sucks.
  16. I just bought these about a week and a half ago, and haven't worn anything else since. Ariat Motor Carbide H20 Waterproof Square Toe Harness Boot.
  17. I'm in SW Ohio, right near Kings Island. Where are we goin?
  18. Been riding to work since last week! Of course, I have no cage option right now. Since I sold my truck, the bike is my only ride to work. Still counts!
  19. Can't wait to meet you guys, but I'll be out of town that weekend. Catch me up later?

    New Guy...

Hey guys, my name is Ron. I've been a member on ORDN for nearly two years (wow!) and am always looking for people to ride with. I live just North of Cincinnati, in the King's Island area, and am happy to lend a hand to a fellow biker when I can. I ride because I enjoy getting out on the road and feeling the miles melt away under me as I explore places I'd never think to check out in the cage. There is something about the sounds and smells that you experience on a motorcycle that you just can't get any place else, you know? Anyway, I've been looking around and just loosely bouncing the idea around about joining a M/C, but I've got so many family and church commitments going that I'm not sure I could meet a lot of the minimum active member requirements. I've got two young kids and a loving and understanding wife, but a guy can only be away so much. I've checked out the website, and I didn't see any membership forms or dues, or fees or anything, can you help me out? Another question, I saw where patches with rockers have been ordered... Established M/C's take those patches and rockers very seriously. Have you checked with any of the local clubs to make sure they're not going to take issue? The last thing I need is trouble over "colors", you know? Thanks! Ron
  22. I'm not riding because I still haven't sold my truck. As long as I have my truck, I have no monies for motorcycles.
  23. This is the exact video I was going to search for when I started reading this thread. Always put the best tires on the rear of the car, regardless of the drive axle.
  24. Welcome to the board! I live in Morrow too, hope we can meet for some rides this year!
  25. I smoked for 10 years before I finally quit. My kids getting older and paying more attention around the house forced it from "not in the house" to "not at home". I gradually backed myself off of them over time stretching more and more time between smoke breaks, then I started riding to and from work. Once I was commuting on the bike, I was pretty well down to 2 or 3 cigarettes per day, and by that point I decided I really didn't like smoking anymore. I got sick and couldn't leave the house for a week, and that was the end of it. I decided that once I kicked that virus that had me laid up for so long, I wasn't going to pick them up again. Haven't smoked since September '08.
