  1. my sena smh10 blue toothed to my iphone. With siri I could call or voice text while riding and it was great
  2. My sena smh-10 was awesome but I can count on 1 hand I used it for actual comms with another rider. I bought it mainly so I could just bluetooth tunes in to my helmet
  3. I was looking into it, but some cons I found so far from lot of users are no waterproof, damaged in rain, connecting with non 30k Senas like 20s etc problems with statics. It seems like Sena pushed out 30k fast to compete with the scala. Almost like a beta product. A better version of the 30K I am expecting soon.
  4. Thx for the input guys, seems like sena has monopoly over the OR arena. If at all I plan to have some sort of communication during rides might as well go the sena route.
  5. Sena Have been a hold out for many years... my previous communication was Autocom, which I had a chunk of change invested. Of course it still had wires, but the sound level, quality, and distance were second to none, it’s nice being able to communicate 10 miles apart with a 4 watt radio! Since switching over to the Sena, wish I had done it sooner. Quaility and volume are great, no wires, and the phone/navigation integration works great.
  6. I own a Sena 10R but have not been impressed. The App crashes everytime I try to connect to the device and it took a couple days on the last trip before we were able to figure out the correct button sequence to connect a 3-way intercom. Even then only 1 of the 3 of us knew how to do it and he wasn't really sure what he was doing. Based on reviews and my current limited experience I would probably get a Scala next time.
  7. On my 3rd Sena. The first SMH10 was absolutely bullet proof. It just worked and worked well. My second was the 10U for the Neotec biggest pos ever. Had 2 of them die on me totally and two hadbattery issues, wouldnt last as long as advertised. Also wasn't a fan of the clip on handle bar remote that took up a lot of space on the grip. Buttons were small a awkward. I now have the SRL integrated for my Neotec2. I love it so far with zero issues. Battery has been great speaker sound great and no remote. They went back to a 3 button design it keep it stupid simple. I takes a little bit to learn the button functions but the basic stuff is single tap. Only thing I wish it would have is to be able to charge it while using it for those super long days like we had out west last summer but Sena says they do that for safety reasons. Sena customer service is a little less to be desired too. Mike from RD had to take care of most of my issues with my 10U because Sena drag their feet. Their product design is awsome. Product quality middle of the road. And unless it's changed in the last 15 month customer service needed work. EDIT: Also my first SRL came D.O.A too but a quick exchange it has been great
  8. Which device you own? I started using them long back during which time Scala was the go to (don’t know if it was the only one) But it’s close to a decade old now and starting to show its age at times. I been seeing only sena with majority of OR folks. I used to like sena because of bang for buck factor, but these days prices are comparable but Scala offers waterproof while sena still sucks in this area. But still the whole point of having communicator is to talk with others. (Tonik 😊) newer ones can be interconnected with other brands still crappy. Just wondering what device the majority carry. The next generations ones are already here which sort of has this “self healing mesh” networking. No more standing by and clicking marathon, they literally automatically connect within range (tonik 🤣)
  9. https://www.amazon.com/Sena-BT0003006-Motorcycle-Bluetooth-Intercom/dp/B00NBSI4MY Bought this bluetooth rig before the helmets changed up and parts dried up. Works great, took a while to set up and pair bluetooth and learn the controls. Was able to hear incoming phone calls and the Waze navigation app and stuff ok. Heard the sound isn't real good with the stock speakers, but sounds great to me and plenty loud enough (using both volume controls). I bet some people put the speakers in backwards. Tested with various sound check sample tracks. My old phone doesn't have enough space for storing music. I need a new phone I guess. Wasn't sure if using phone or an mp3 player would be better. Mostly an issue of battery life and recharging time. Best option might be the ability to do either as required. The old phone streaming Pandora uses up the battery quite quick, and heard the battery in the Sena comm unit might not last too long either. So plugging in an mp3 player would have been a nice option, but the 3.5 input jack isn't there. Apparently the correct helmet kit doesn't come with that mic and phones unit. If buying individual parts, there is a different unit that has the 3.5 input jack. BUT, then I read reviews that that 3.5 jack breaks way too easy anyway. So for an extra 35 bucks, maybe, maybe not worth it. Tried my passive (not active) noise suppression earbuds for the mp3 under the helmet with the new speakers in place, and seemed like no difference in fit and comfort. It should be ok to have both in place if I want to. The Bell Mag-9 is the quietest helmet I've ever had. I can use it without stuff plugged in my ears and it's quiet enough. But when earbuds or earplugs are in place, it lets in a little more noise at higher freeway speeds. You never know till you try... edit: comm unit wouldn't charge using an old worn usb cable. Bad connection. Had to use a fresh usb charging cable. edit again: out going phone calls with voice control didn't work. The phone can hear me, but it goofs up what I tell it. Phones fault, I guess. Again, I need a new phone.
  10. Jim, that looks fine to me, I like it. Yep, that is still my phone #. I have to head to Dallas for work and I won't be back home until late Thursday. We can figure out exactly where to meet up and what time. Again, you (or anyone else) are welcome to stay the night here Wed night. Do you still have a Sena? Anyone else? @JustinNck1 @2talltim you heading down earlier with @Casper?
  11. Also, Matt and I have Senas. We use them to sing to each other, yell obscenities, and coordinate fuel stops.
  12. I'm the same way, never wore ear plugs on the bike, I listen to music (Sena) on the bike. When I go to Motogp or MotoAmerica races I use ear plugs and when I go to plants for work they require ear plugs. I will probably pay the price with hearing loss when I am older.... wait I'm already old!
  13. I can't elaborate on why the SMH10 doesn't fit the Bell Star very well, but I know the Sena 20S fits just fine on my Star. I had some intermittent electrical contact issues between the base mount and the unit itself because I'd over tightened the mount clamp on the helmet shell, but once I loosened the bolts up a bit.....the problem ceased and it's been fine ever since.
  14. Everybody in this thread has an rf1200 and sena and no fitment problems, but still waiting on somebody to show some pics or something... It clearly doesn't fit in mine without a spacer, so I'm so interested to see how yall are mounting them. I shouldn't have to permanently mount them with putty or jb weld or tape if everyone else is using velcro and it fits... I'm seriously fucking confused what I could be doing differently, there's not many ways you can spin those speakers to change orientation when mounting them. Cooter is the only one who will admit to using a spacer to mount his, but the spacers are just way too thick for me, it shoves the speakers into my ear. I'll never be convinced that these speakers are compatible with this helmet using the included mounting shit, they just don't fit.
  15. I wouldn't argue and say it's the products fault, especially when you are using a 3 generation old model. The improvements since the smh10 to the 30K are substantial. If you are really having a hard time keeping the mount stuck to your helmet, maybe consider something like jbweld for plastic. It certainly won't come off then, which I suppose could be an issue if you ever decide to upgrade. I love my SENA. Their customer service is horrendous, but the product is good.
  16. Cool thanks I'd be interested to see your setup... I think that's the same sena I have... I'll try all your guys advice and if it still doesn't fit for me it's going up for sale on here lol... I'm starting to feel like my ears are the problem if nobody else has fitment issues ?
  17. I have a rf 1200 with a Sena 20S evo. It came with a bunch of foam pads with an adhesive on one side and soft velcro on the other. I trimmed the foam pad down to a smaller diameter so it fit in the speaker recess better without touching the edges. I stuck that in the recess and mount the speakers to it. They fit fine.
  18. Here's a pic... They look like they fit, I don't know if the speakers are different between the 10 and the 20 or not... But these rock around and will come out... If I press them any harder I'd break them or dent the speaker itself... I don't blame sena or shoei, i just can't get a good fit unless I use the spacer they included... I could probably permanently mount them in with tape, I might try that before selling it
  19. Never had sena so not sure of speaker size. Had great luck with uclear with boomless microphone though. Anyhow you can do a very clean job of opening up speaker pockets with a soldering iron. Go slow. The heat gets close and the eps will shrink. Wouldn’t go nuts due to safety factor though.
  20. My sena fits like shit in my rf1200... It's a nice product, but sometimes I don't even ride because I don't feel like wearing that helmet anymore... I took the removable ear panels out but the speakers don't fit in the recess for speakers so they pin my ears when I put it on....the more I think about it, I might put it up for sale on here
  21. Sounds like more of a fitment issue than an issue with Sena. Correct if I am wrong, cause I know very little about Bell helmets, but isn't the Star a race fit helmet? I would assume if it is, it wasn't designed for any kind of speaker installation. I have had my issues with Sena for other reasons, but I've looked at the competition and no brand is perfect.
  22. I've had an smh10 for a few years now and while it was initially a good product, I ended up ripping mine out today for a number of reasons. They don't fit bell star helmets. My last star was a 2011 model I bought used off of a forum member. I had to alter the helmet to clamp the sena on. I resorted to this after the 2nd adhesive panel failed. Even then, it would need tightened periodically or it would let go while riding and dangle by the wires. Bought a brand new bell race star helmet this year and no fucking way was I going to take a razor to it just to mount my sena, so I ordered a new adhesive mounting kit, cleaned my brand new, never rode helmet with the alcohol pad and stuck it on. Lasted less than 1000 miles before it let go. It had also been cutting out last year and continued to get worse this year, not sure if wires, pins or internal electronic issue but it was fucking annoying. The speakers took up so much space in the ear recesses that my ears would get pinned down against my head, not comfortable. So there, I'm pretty much done bitching about it. You want it? $100 obo.
  23. I went to take off this morning on the bike. I hit the button on my Sena and tell Siri to play all. She says something stupid back. I try again, another stupid response. Now I am getting pissed,so I say, you stupid fucking bitch! Siri says language, really didn’t know she would do that!
  24. Costs a lot of power to use bluetooth and GPS. Screen is a hog as well, but GPS is pretty bad because you're using processor, GPS antenna, mobile data and then bluetooth to transmit to your sena. This can be mitigated with offline maps, but only so far as data usage. I hope it works out for you, I'm not trying to shit in your oatmeal, I just have been using wireless charging since the note 3 and have a pretty good idea of its capabilities.
  25. Mine is ordered too..lol Also I sold my old neotec and sena today along with another sena I had. Looks like I'll be rocking my old exo-400 for a while till the new one gets here. The good news is im not much out of pocket now for the new one.
