Tonik Posted July 19, 2015 Report Share Posted July 19, 2015 So last Saturday wife and I headed for the Black Hills. Day one was CLV to Cedar Falls Iowa, 650 miles. Stayed at a nice casino in Cedar Falls, wife likes casinos so I try to plan them along the way if possible. Picked up a passenger at a McDonalds along the way. Day two we did another 650, stopped in Murdo South Dakota for the car museum there. It was closed last time I went through, and glad we stopped. It was epic. 300 cars of all types and boatloads of motorcycles, bikes, toys and all kinds of memorabilia. Well worth the stop and 11 bucks. As we got near Rapid City the horizon was black. One of the worst looking storms I have ever seen. Lots of rotation in the clouds and non-stop massive lightning strikes. I decided I was bailing at the next exit and waiting it out. That was about 5 miles away. So I am hammer down and my amazing weather luck kicked in....it was like Moses parted the clouds. There was one clear sunny part right in front of us, while on both sides the chaos was still going on. We drove right through it with the mess on either side. News said later there was damaging hail, floods and crap on both sides of the highway. View from the hotel afterwards: So day 3 the fun starts. Mt. Rushmore. 16A was newly paved and it was epic. No traffic just hammer down and carve the corners. After that Custer Park and Wildlife Loop Road. Buffalo all over the damn place. Spent the next two nights in Deadwood. Tonik Posted July 19, 2015 Author Report Share Posted July 19, 2015 Next day was SpearFish Canyon Road. Another epic road, again no traffic except for two lesbians hauling a Buel. They got out of the way very quickly for us. Then Devils Tower. Then a great road back to South Dakota, think it was 24. Cool towns along the way. One for sale...the whole town for 1.5 million. Then the Badlands, that is certainly one of the highlights of the trip. I love that road and the whole 'on the moon' atmosphere. Then just as we left the Badlands before getting back on 90 I saw a place that lets you feed prairie dogs. At Sioux City we headed south and spent the night at the new HardRock Casino in Sioux Falls Iowa. They were out of king beds, so they gave us a suite. Hit Omaha Nebraska the next day for grins. Very cool town, super clean. Then headed to Joliet Illinois for the night, but stopped at Antique Archaeology on the way. Those dudes from American Pickers. Next day we headed home, saw the bike swap meet in Wauseon and stopped for lunch and a quick walk around. Pretty much sucked like AMA's Vintage Days. Some nice bikes though. All in all, an outstanding trip. It was nice just having one bike. We saw something we just stopped and did it. Not having to worry about others opinions and so on. It struck every black person that walked by. Was quite the pile of bodies there. I think it had a high capacity lightning bolt magazine. I've already sent Tonik a PM, portraying my disgust. It is my constitutional right to disgust other people. Didn't do a thing in Omaha, just set the GPS for downtown...cruised around for awhile to check it out and then hit the road.
