Pelotonia 2016 Moto escort

Hi everyone,

Ohio Riders members have always stepped up big time for Pelotonia for the past 7 years, either volunteering their time or participating in the event.

Many of you have helped with this in the past, and if you are interested in helping again, we would love to have you back! If you haven't done it before but this sounds like something you could be interested in, let me know and we can give you more details.

If you don't already know, the moto escorts ride along the route and help out anyone who needs assistance. The vast majority of stuff is chains coming off, flat tires, etc. Easy stuff. In the rare event there is a medical emergency, call 911.

The dates for the event are Saturday August 6, and Sunday August 7. Most of the help will be needed on Saturday, but there is always a need for a few people on Sunday too. The ride has a dual start on Saturday morning. One start is downtown Columbus and the other start is in Pickerington. First riders go out at 7:30AM.

The ride finishes Saturday at Kenyon College in Gambier, and  Saturday night there is a huge party with food and beer!

On Sunday, the ride goes from Kenyon and ends in New Albany.

In the past, we have made arrangements for dorm rooms in Kenyon if you want to do both days, and we should be able to do that again this year too. We can have someone take your gear up too (pillow, sleeping bag/sheets, toiletries etc) so you don't have to worry about carrying it with you all day.

If you can only help out one day, or only a partial day, that's no problem at all.

If you can't ride this year, but still want to participate, there are TONS of other volunteer opportunities. Let me know and we can definitely find something for you to do.

Minimum requirements:

1. Have your full, valid endorsement, and have your bike plated, registered and insured.

2. Wear at minimum helmet, long sleeves, long pants, gloves, and closed toed shoes.  At least a 3/4 helmet. No novelty german war helmets. This is requested by Pelotonia, as this is a safety oriented position.

3. No super loud bikes at low speeds. No straight pipes etc. Don't scare riders or make them deaf.

4. No jabronis!

It's really a pretty chill time, and a great way to be involved in the community, and help out with a great cause.

I have a handful of yellow safety vests that you can wear so you can be identified as an escort.

If you don't know how to change a bicycle tire, I can teach you. It's super easy.

Post up here, PM me or email me at pelotoniamoto@gmail.com if you want to participate, or if you have any questions at all.

Hi John, I escorted 2 years ago, enjoyed helping the riders, and would like to help again this year.  Put me down as Full-Day Sunday.

Note that I volunteer on behalf of Huntington and provide a primary level of Pelotonia I.T. web site support.  Last year I needed to be on hand to restore rider registration, peloton management and donation functions through the ride weekend, so I first want to give them the option for me to provide a similar role this year.  Given the nature of I.T. it's possible (though not probable) I'd need to cancel last-minute to tend to the site since the week leading up and that weekend are peak donation times.

I'll be riding a yellow DR650 with stock muffler and soft bags with plenty of room for water, inner-tubes and spanners.  I use a Sena 20S, so calling in ride reports is straightforward.

As stated in our email exchange, I'm good to go for both Saturday & Sunday.  Signing up here too.

Are you able to secure those "Staff" stickers again this year that we can attach to our bikes?  I found it very helpful for all the police to be able to identify that I'm not some A-hole riding along the route messing with the bikers.

John, I'd like to volunteer for Saturday. I've ridden a bicycle in pelotonia in the past, but this year I'd like to use one of my motorcycles to help out. I have a DR650 and a 1200GS; both bikes have carrying capacity for tools, tubes, water, etc. I'm certified in first aid, and I can change a bicycle tire. I also have a Sena 20s for communications.

I'm friends with Scott, but don't hold that against me [emoji12].
