Advice on SEO route

So I am going to take a ride down south for a short ride(4-5 hours). Here is the route I came up with but I know you guys are regulars and can tell me if I'm missing something.

Start on Route 4 south from Marysville

route 56 south all the way down close to 93

Route 314 North

route 374 west

becomes route 678

route 180

back on 56 north

route 104 north

Route 762 through Harrisburg

Route 665 to London

Take Route 38 from London to Marysville

Things I am debating.

Going farther east as I beat my GPS time estimate by a little over an hour on Sunday.

Slabbing it down to make up some time for more time in SEO and less time getting there.

Anyone have and recommendations?

Hocking Hills is kinda hit or miss depending on how busy it is in the tourist areas. This route is a little longer, but it has some good riding in it. I can't vouch for the northern loop around Columbus, but taking 56 to Athens, then 329, 550, 377 to McConnelsville is nice.

@JustinNck1 Nice!! I don't mind the distance only a few hundred miles and it always seems faster than the estimate. Unless you stop for a meal or something.

I prefer being out 6-8 hours but with three little ones and the wife it is hard to get out. Why a lot of my riding starts early in morning. Hell I did 3 hours Sunday before anyone even woke up to  know I was gone. :D

This is good but I'd pick up 78 at McConnelsville and go east. That part is freshly paved and a wicked ride. If you do take 377 all the way down, you need to pick up 550 west at Sharpsburg? There's a combination head shop, gas station and post office on the corner and no I didn't make that up.  But anyway go on 550 for about 2 or 3 miles and then turn around. That little section there is ridiculously fun.

Your original route has some fun areas as well but I'd save them for after school is back in session and for a weekday. Lots of tourist traffic in Hocking right now.

@Mary#17 thanks. Now you have me thinking of making a day trip and visiting my dad. I am originally from Cambridge so I could head up that way and end up in New concord and swing over to my dads for a visit and then hit 83 up from New Concord and make the trek home.

+1 on this. Sharpsburg hill is one of my favorite sections of road. I ride it almost every week (On my way home from work).

Oops. I meant west on 78. :)  Have a good trip!

Thanks, I always do. Anytime on the bike is a good time. I'll make sure to let you and Justin know how it goes. Maybe I'll even post the day in case anyone else is going to be in the area. I have not gotten to meet anyone from here yet and it be nice to put faces to screen-names.

Except I'm clearly directionally challenged! It's east on 550. I've done it so many times, I just know where to go! :)

Was just on that stretch of 56 today.  No problem, just take 278 toward Nelsonville and 691 back to 56.  Best 20 miles we rode today.

Then had lunch at Union St. before following a coal truck for 10 miles in the rain on 550.

Toward Hocking?

It's closed at the 56, 356 intersection. Appears they are completely reconstructing the road and intersection, which is a good thing.

When heading east it's closed 4 miles past 278. When heading west from Athens it's closed right at 356 and traffic is maintained from 56 to 356. You can take 356 south to 50 and run over to 278 and head back to 56.

Thanks for the info. That will definitely change my normal route.

Just a heads up, 56 is closed just past 278.

That being said, I would take 56 to 278N into Nelsonville and take 78 all the way to McConnelsville. 691 is a fun road as mentioned above too.

278N is fun with a few blind Jumps and Curves. There are a few residential driveways so clear the view before launching.:) I normally depart Nelsonville and stay on 278N to right on 595N just past Carbon Hill. 595N into New Straitsville is fun then right on 216 to Murray City left on 78N to Glouster, (Fuel) and then you must decide 329S to Trimbel and Amesville at 550. or 78E. Just a change to the routine.IMHO

If anyone has an interest in local history there is a very interesting cemetery at the perry/hocking county line on 595.Paynes Crossing was a community of freed slaves.Several of the men served in the Colored Troops in the Civil War.I often stop there on rides to take a water break and try to imagine the lives those men led.Truely adventurous souls! My 04 FJR also turned over 100,000 miles there.

We've been there a few times as well.  That's where we went on one of my first Jeep rides.  Before the lift and wheels and several more $$$$$

Agreed, 278 is a great stretch of road.

If I remember you have a special relationship with a fast left sweeping downhill turn.;)

I gave you a ride on the back of my Z1K. The wife said we looked very odd together on my bike.

Something like this?
