JaSSon
I've been looking at processors lately, and I have noticed a new processor from AMD. It's called the sempron, and I can't figure out what it is. They almost appear to be Athlon XP chips that have been renamed. However, none of them feature the larger 512 L2 cache or the 400 mHz FSB of the higher-end Bartons. Also, them seem to come in both soket A and Socket 754 solutions. They seem to be priced slightly cheaper than their Barton preformance counterpart. Anyone know anything about these chips?
Dave1647545494
its probably the cheaper line of AMD stuff. just like intel has celeron.
Mr. Jones
Sempron = the shitty replacement for the XP. It is infact a significantly slower chip. The only one worth its weight is the 3100+ Sempron. Its based off the 64 Core and Performs fantastic for its price and can be o/c.
Drunkendubber
yuuup its the celeron of amd. the shitty procs that couldnt support the full cache n shit so they were hoed down to a more managable level in order to deplete faulty inventory. Good for barebones, internet/office pcs no high end gaming or multimedia apps.
iwishiwascool
Actually. They are just toned down xp or 64s. Its not that they "cant support" the extra cache as increased cache doesn’t increasingly tax processor function. I run a sempron 3200. Basically it lacks the 64-bit technology (which isn’t used yet anyway), and 256mb cache. They are also quite overclockable. Unless you are playing heavy-duty games or major multitasking, it is quite accommodating to a budget. I plan to upgrade to a 64 mobile. which has 1mb on die cashe... when the price drops.
