New camaro?

Anyone seen, or heard about the new camaro? I know by now it's probably old news etc.. But I was wondering if anyone had pics, specs and how much they're finally gonna cost? My mom was telling me they're building it, so I'm hoping that this rumor is true, and if so, I know the reason why I'll save a year's pay and then some. :)

Here it is at the 2006 NAIAS, 400hp, and it has 4 cyclinders that turn off like the Hemis when crusing which makes it able to get almost 30mpg.

still a concept scott, if it does make it to production the front/rear lights will be changed, hope to god they don't go with the exhaust they had on it, and the ginormous rear quarter will be slimmed down, other than that the camaro was one of the better concepts at the show this year

No worse than the audi ugliness.

Thats a matter of taste. At least the Audis are faster. ;)

Faster then camaro

Faster then camaro

Faster then camaro

Much faster then camaro

Faster again, this is getting boring

hp/weight

S4 340/3870

S6 420/3800

S8 450/4200

RS6 480/3900

RS4 420/3700

Camaro 400/3800+

If the camaro is anything like other retro styled steel beasts, it'll be over 4000lbs, and by no small margin. It may beat the standard S4 in a roll race, depending on the retro drag coef. But the S4 will launch harder. The 500 hp flavor of the LS2 gets the 3100lb Z06 to 60 in 3.4 seconds, add 900-1000 lbs and you'll pick up 2 seconds if not more. The Audis 0-60:

s4 5.4

s6 5.1

s8 5.0

rs4 4.7

rs6 4.0

So, by the numbers, the S4 vs the Camaro may be a close race, if Chevy is lucky, untill its time to turn. ;) Also consider the fact that the audi's will probably get faster by 2009. ;)

As you said, it is amatter of taste. Personaly, I think the front end of the audis are looking like the front end of the ram pickups. Fucking huge. Gm does need to do some work on the camaro. Shrink some of the pannels, lose the mail slot, make it a lot less robo cop wanabe.

Just for grins, what are the price ranges of those audi vehicles? I dont know what they are retailing for, as I havent really researched them.

I also doubt the camaro would be a complete sled. Hopefully gm will put it on a diet (shrinkage of the pannels should help considrably)

Speculating weight at this point is rediculous. The Camaro Concept is built on the Zeta platform that wil be used on the new Holdens and possibly more RWD GM NA vehicles. The current GTO weighs ~3800lbs and there was some weight added to make it US legal. The new platform has been designed with these provisions and should not hold as much a penalty for US homologation.

Will is be light? No, I'd expect it to be in the same neighborhood as the GTO or CTS-V (~3800ish). Why will it weigh so much? Well Lutz wants the base vehilce to come in at a low $20k price point. To do this the body will no doubt be steel (same reason the Solstice weighs 2800lbs and starts at $20k). Every single Audi you posted costs tens of thousands more and has an aluminum body. A fair performance comparison? No. A fair styling comparision? Sure, all car designs are constantly discussed no matter the price point.

But none of this really matters since the car isn't even going to be built yet! You're arguing about a fictitous car, with fictitous specs, and how it compares to a car that's tens of thousands over its fictitous price tag.

That and anyone who would get a chance to drive the S4 would gladly drop $50k on that car if they had it/wanted to spend that much money on a car.

I got to drive it in the snow the other day, at about 85. I can’t think of another new car for near that much money that I would consider over it.

The 500 hp flavor of the LS2 gets the 3100lb Z06 to 60 in 3.4 seconds, add 900-1000 lbs and you'll pick up 2 seconds if not more. QUOTE]

Its a 427ci LS7 in the Z06 not the 364ci LS2. Every 100 pounds is a 10th of a second, so 1000lbs would be 1 second. Also no one knows what its gonna weigh, but I can tell you that it contains alot of Carbon Fiber and aluminium body panels and other parts. Also both the LS2 and LS7 have all aluminium block and heads. As far handling goes and another reason why it wont be as heavy as people think is that the whole chassis including the IRS is based off the C6, in fact its amost the same.

The main reason the F-Body line went away is because GM wanted to close the plant in Canada, but if they did that they would have to pay union to all the workers for taking their jobs. The only way to close the plant was to get rid of the F-body line and the plant wouldn't be needed anymore. The other half is the F-bodys wern't selling well, so they take them away and make people realize how much they want them back. Also they knew Ford was gonna raise the price on the Pony too. Now they have people that are really gonna want the car when it comes back and they are gonna be cheaper than the mustang.

They are gonna build this car and its just barely gonna be a step behind the C6. It'll be cheaper, faster, more agile, and much hotter looking that any Mustang or Audi.

definitely faster then the audi

Than mine, yes.

Than a new S4. Like someone else said, this car is still semi-factious at this point so that's completely dependent on what this car ends up being like, if they even make it (it's still a concept, not even a production concept). By 09' the S4 will be faster though. After having driven it the other day, I would own buy the S4 hands down over that car regardless of price difference. S6 and S8 are a similar story (the 07 s8 achieves 9.5lb/1hp and 0-62 in 5.1 sec, not too bad for a luxury barge). For the Camaro to hit that same mark it would have to weigh 3800lbs. I don't think that figure will be too far off. The S6 is in that same range. I don't doubt any of these cars could handle about as well as the Camaro. It’s splitting hairs.

The RS4 would eat that car alive.
