Sam1647545489
hands down its the German Shepherd. find me another dog used for as many purposes (seeing eye, bomb/drug sniffing, police attack dogs, guard dogs, etc) that can still be docile and friendly. Helen Kellers service dog- Pitbull Plenty of police use the pit as a drug sniffing dog/attack dogs Little Rascals dog- Pitbull Pitbull was the only dog to ever make the cover of life magazine 3x. TTQ B4U
Helen Keller and WWI and Little Rascals were a mighty long time ago. Since, then, what people have done to the breed have not been in line with what most would want for a social animal. Little Rascals used both Pits early on then moved to the English Bulldog I believe. Times change unfortunately. Poor breeding has a lot to do with it too IMO, but more strongly for me, most of the owners who are so gracefully featured on the news with these dogs are thugs, white trash or otherwise people who shouldn't be allowed to own any living creature period. Patrick
just cuz a dog's got Fort Minor music playing to pictures of it doesn't make it the best. hands down its the German Shepherd. find me another dog used for as many purposes (seeing eye, bomb/drug sniffing, police attack dogs, guard dogs, etc) that can still be docile and friendly. besides, my uncle's dog is the most badass around. 1/2 German Shepherd, 1/2 Coyote (unsure of the particular subspecies). I don't have any pics but I'll see if he has any. I have got to agree on the Shepard one. Although pits are great (my friend has a mix, very cool dog) I'm one for a German Shepard. Aunt and uncle had a purebred, I have a mix between a German Shepard and a Lab. Just as good of service dogs as they are pets. Mean as hell when need be, very good with kids in the home. verse
Australian Cattle Dogs > * My dingo will eat your baby Also, they are smarter than 50% of the American Populous I have 1 Austrailian Cattle Dog and 6 Pembroke Welsh Corgi's. The cattle dog is very smart, although both breeds were voted as the top 10 smartest breeds of dog. Any dog that's mixed with dingo has to be pretty badass. I do love Corgi's the most though. They make look like little dogs, but these things are crazy smart and energetic.

Much smarter breeds. I rescued mine... she knows over 200 commands... I don't know them all yet. basically I can just point and she knows what to do. I can't wait to find out everything she can do. Females are larger than the males and she is about 55-60 lbs
87GT
My step dad has a Border Collie we bought off of a farm and it is stubborn. It understands you but it doesn't follow through a lot. I had a black lab for most of my childhood. She was was a great dog. Always listened and barely did anything bad. I even trained her to show her teeth at me with a hand signal for fun. I have never had a pitbull before.

TheHaze
My AmStaff, Rocky: http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l17/mikehaze_2006/Familigia/Rock-1.jpg Smartness aside (although still INCREDIBLY intelligent), the greatest affection I've ever felt from a breed, has been from the pit/staff breed. You guys that haven't had one would not understand. I also have a 16 year old lab/mut/collie type mix and while he's a great house dog, the level of affection is completely different. Sco0terzsl
Negative Herding dogs > * Corgis Cattle Dogs OE Sheepdogs Border Collies Herding dogs are just superior to other categories of dogs. Much smarter breeds. Not to mention their loyalty. I have a 3 year old Aussie that I rescued, I've never had such a loyal dog in my life. Everywhere I go he is off leash and will drop whatever it is he's doing and come to my side if need be. It doesn't matter what, if he chases after a squirrel he stops, if he's all the way on the other side of the field and I whistle he will sprint to my side. It's crazy. They are also crazy intelligent but in Sherman's case I think he has ADD. I wish I could keep him interested in a frisbee for more than 5 minutes, after that he'll chase it until it falls to the ground and then run back to me. What a jerk. And since we are all posting up pictures of our trusty dags, here's mine! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v443/Sco0terzsl/Misc%20Stuff/Sherman/CRW_3838.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v443/Sco0terzsl/Misc%20Stuff/Sherman/IMG_5625copy.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v443/Sco0terzsl/Misc%20Stuff/Sherman/IMG_5597copy.jpg

If they don't have a job then they will have a ton of built up energy which can turn into destructive behaviors.
