Step 1: Go to CVS and tell them you need a passport photo. Step 2: Get your pose on. Step 3: Take passport photo to any post office and tell them that you want a passport. Step 4: Fill out their paperwork, pay some money (I think it's about $200, maybe less?). Step 5: Wait for passport to arrive in the mail. Step 6: Get your international travel on. Step 7: ???? Step 8: Profit. http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/first/first_830.html If you just get the pictures at CVS ($7), then you can print out the form, mail it for another $75 + a stamp, and that's it. If you have the post office due it, it's another $25. This must be a bit different then when I did it; mailing wasn't an option, and it was cheaper.
