Under dash black box...what is it?

I've been tearing apart my truck, trying to find the short or bad connection that's caused me to burn 6 alternators in the past couple of months...really annoying. I've gotten new batteries, new cables tying the Batts and running to the starter, new/cleaned grounds, new cables to the glowplug relay, new etc etc... but the alternators I get from Advance Auto (lifetime warranty 63-amp) only last about 15 minutes before the internal voltage regulator fries.

While I was tracking the IGN wire (pink w/ dark stripe) to the gauge cluster I found this mysterious box. Inside, an old circuit board was all corroded. What could this be? Is this a resistor box for the voltmeter? (My Oil,Speedo and fuel are the only gauges that work. Water temp and voltmeter don't work). Any description of what this is would be great.

Also, the black casing around the circuit board has two numbers. Top says "913" and the bottom says "14047829"

Oops! Thank you for the offer, Dave. :)

Is this a readily available module for purchase if I want to replace it? My "Low Coolant" light comes on at ignition, but haven't given it a reason to test this light yet...

The pics suck, but the circuit board is green and coated in corrosion...

It's the board that makes the focus on your camera work...:)

PM me better pics. I had a board like this in the Miata go bad (it controlled the turn signal). It didn't take long to re-solder.

Ugh...both PM'ing you and getting better pics require effort I'm not willing to exert. Still love you though, Eli. The DieselPlace.com guys confirmed it's a Low Coolant module. I'll use the ol' eyeball down the radiator neck gauge from now on. With an old GM, the gauges/idiot lites can't be trusted anyway! :)

I'm passed it. My truck is charging now, and I'm embarassed to say after 6 alternators and an entire underhood rewire what MAY have been the culprit...
