ShankroidBeast
I get home the other day to find that all my internet traffic was diverted to a big warning page with a number to call. Insight/Road Runner as you know will first shut off internet service if the bill is late and this is what I thought happened. Turns out the number I called was with "safety and security" for Insight. My IP address had been tagged for sharing copyrighted material by the movie studios. The media in question was the DVD rip of the movie "fighting" I do everything by torrents. I have used bit-torrent, u-torrent, and most recently Vuze which is much faster. My guess is that I had the application up for too long while "sharing" the media I had already downloaded. I usually clear the completed torrents, but forgot to with the new application. I've been downloading off the internet even before Al Gore discovered it, and this was the first time I was ever targeted. Got a slap on the wrist and that was it. Maybe I won’t be so lucky next time. Just a little word of warning...DON'T LEAVE COMPLETED TORRENTS IN YOUR P2P APPLICATION FOR CONTINUOUS SHARING, YOU COULD GET BUSTED TOO

And next time you don't get flagged for abuse you get a subpeona. Do me a favor and stop p2p.

Drewhop
I found a website that has new movie releases on it. Instead of downloading they are videos similar to Youtube. What are the legalities of that?
sciongirl
that is scary!! what do you mean by a warning? do they put you on a watch list now? i use newsgroups.. but im not sure im completely safe with them either. and i have insight
iwashmycar
in school i was told that theyd watch me for 90 days...and at anytime in those 90 days I could basically get sued, if the RIAA decided to... and have to go to court. Ususally they only take the big offenders (w tons of illegal DLs) but you never know.
thorne
downloading is not a problem torrents and other p2p work on the concept that during your download you upload pieces of your file to other people. streaming them from sights like http://www.ovguide.com/ are not going to get your flagged. that being said you have to be careful to not get yourself a trojan as some o th links can be shady

sol740
umm can any one put this in english... wtf are torrents an p2p? ? Torrents are magical elves that will perform ritualistic dances on top of ones PC or MAC, than run to the nearest house using a "Torrent Search" (flashlight with an elf-cutout), and perform the same dance on the requester's PC or MAC, thus pure digital transfer is enabled. thorne
SSL encryption which prevent a provider "rr" from seeing what your downloading. Since your only downloading from a new provider only they know what articles you have downloaded. The problem with p2p is your basicly standing on top of a large hill with a large bull horn and screaming please bust me asi will prove im breaking the law buy sending you the files!!!!!! thorne
peer guardian 2 helps It i s not perfect as the companies change there soruce ips to quickly things you can d TURN OFF ALL SHARING PERIOD .this will make you allot more safe stop being a tool and using a method of dling things that is so visable. dling off p2p is like walking downtown screaming you want to buy a bag of weed and then purchasiung it an offering to sell a bag from what you got. its stupid plain and simple. thorne
youcan get any tv show with in 2 hours of it airing 99% of the time. sometimes before they air. I do this using newsgroups + nzb search engine. rapidshare is annoying with the throttled speed. Edited September 2, 2009 by Thorne
