Nitrousbird
My wife and I want to get (likely build) a fire pit. It has to look nice; I am not doing the tractor rim pit. I am also not doing a $1000 fire pit either. It is suprisingly hard to find good pictures of reasonably priced, nice looking pits. It is either the 7 figure house with a crazy design, or a huge patio design to go with it, all costing tons of money. The other side of it is the ghetto pits. We just want a nice pit in the yard, nothing more. Anyone have pics of things they have built (with info on how it was built)?

KillJoy http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/9359/dsc01737k.jpg Somewhere back here. Likely where the ground levels off, more towards the left side of the picture but still behind in the house. Twistedrx7
roman stack is a nice way to make a firepit, I can more than likely get you the best discount at Mr mulch for it as well. It makes a 58 inch OD i believe.

Guest Melanie
With a yard that big have you thought about dong a fireplace as the yards focal point? They are easier to see from a distance and are big selling points if you decide to move.

Guest Melanie
Here's a few examples. I know some of them are a bit pricier than the OP is thinking but just wanted to show how many different ways they can be done. These only scratch the surface. http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh196/smilesexyone/OutdoorFireplace.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh196/smilesexyone/fireplace.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh196/smilesexyone/fireplace_photo.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh196/smilesexyone/fireplaces1.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh196/smilesexyone/outdoor-fireplace3.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh196/smilesexyone/outdoor_fireplace-734697.jpg http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh196/smilesexyone/outdoor_fireplace_54-66273121048_st.jpg
Guest Melanie
If you do a google image search for "outdoor fireplaces" you will see a huge variety of options for every price range.

Doug1647545489
I just finished my fire pit in my back yard. I'll post pics tomorrow. I used flagstaff stone from lowes for the walls. And then capped it off with tan cement caps. I did not install a steel ring because of how large the pit is, the fire won't be right on the walls. If it's a problem, I will put layer of fire bricks around the ID. I also built it on a layer of fire bricks and gravel to keep the heat semi insulated from the ground since I have a septic field. The guy across the street who helped build the house says there are no drain pipes where I put the pit but I didn't want to take a chance. It was around $200 and turned out quite nice. Buck531
I used some cinder blocks from when I had the garage door installed. It's pretty fucking ghetto, but I just wanted to block off the stump that was there before and burned it.
evan9381
now keep in mind, im 15 stones short of completion. the place only had 61, and the other location wasn't open on sunday. with the sale they had this weekend, i will have end up spending about $130. if you want to build a fire pit with 2x4x8 pavers, let me know. ive got about 600 of them listed on CL, but i'd like to sell them together. it would make a pretty big/decent fire pit, and probably still have a bunch left over. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y267/evan938/IMG_3002.jpg?t=1252904248

I'm an Interior Designer and they are popular right now but some people don't know about them. Showed examples so Kevin could see what I was talking about. Doug1647545489
Not perfect, but for the minimal effort and money I spent I don't think it's bad. http://i26.tinypic.com/2hs86d1.jpg
Nitrousbird
With a yard that big have you thought about dong a fireplace as the yards focal point? They are easier to see from a distance and are big selling points if you decide to move. If I am going to start spending thousands of dollars, it sure as hell won't be on an outdoor fireplace (it will be starting 2nd garage or finishing the basement). This is a couple hundred dollar project at best. I still need to fix the fountain out front, probably another couple hundred to do that. now keep in mind, im 15 stones short of completion. the place only had 61, and the other location wasn't open on sunday. with the sale they had this weekend, i will have end up spending about $130. if you want to build a fire pit with 2x4x8 pavers, let me know. ive got about 600 of them listed on CL, but i'd like to sell them together. it would make a pretty big/decent fire pit, and probably still have a bunch left over. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y267/evan938/IMG_3002.jpg?t=1252904248 I like yours a lot (I saw your thread on it); I think my wife wants to do a square one with a smooth top. I don't want to spend the money I'm sure you had to fork over for the concrete work. Looks sweet though.
