I'm sceming on getting a vintage Jaeger right now... hopefully by Xmas. Right now my coin is going into refurb's of a couple of century old family pocket watches: For those of you who take care of your time peices: http://www.ohiowatchrepair.com It's in Cincinnati, but the guy is awsome and the service is great. He's also got a lift in his garage, with a GTO and a Chevelle. He's good people. Actually had to source a replacemnt jewel for one of my watches and didn't change his price for service, really likes to stick to his estimates. If you buy a special watch, try to avoid things that your average rap afficiando would recognize, like Rolex and Tag. Longines is a good kind of entry-level fine timepeice with subtle styling, look around ebay. pshh step up your game son! Patek Phillipe is where its at brosef. Its like buying a corvette instead of a lambo. Except the Patek will cost more than both combined. It seemed like you were referring to the fact that only old vintage watches have complicated movement. True, most people know rolex, tag, cartier, breitling, panerai... Didn't mean to, as that is certainly not the case. The number of available complications has only gone up as time goes on. Another reason to be a fan of Jaeger LeCoultre: I could watch a Gyrotourbillon go all day. I looked breifly at Corum, but just something about their styles and the fact that you canget them with skulls on them... one of their watches and a jogging suit = Gotti kid. lol Itay Noy.. I'm glad they exist, their stuff is neat... but I wouldn't wear it. lol Hey Mike: Look into a chinese company called "Sea Gull" and their movements and complications, tell us how you really feel. Everyone I know that wears a watch is always carrying their phone. I'd also consider the watch to be a tool, not jewelry. For the older generations it's just habbit. Have any of you heard the "checklist"? "Spectacles, Testicles, Wallet, Watch", things a man should never leave home without. Me? I just don't want to fish around in my pocket when I want to know the time/date. I've got a pretty cynical view on the topic: The cell phone has destroyed peoples ability to plan and be punctual. You can change plans at the last minute, call when your late, communicate en-route, etc. People jsut don't feel the need to know the time anymore, unless they're waiting to get off work or waiting for their show to come on. We all know cell phones tell time etc. As does the dashboard in our cars. Watches are WAYYY more used as jewelry than they are "timepieces"... I'd venture a guess that they make very poor jewelry since (obviously) 95% of people around you have no idea what they're looking at... unless you're wearing the same Rolex that Jay Z or who the hell ever wore in some video. I've got a beater watch to tell time and sound an alarm occasionally: In the woods, abroad, in the water, etc. It's certainly not jewelry, its kind of hideous. My other watches are primarily for telling time, yet don't look like shit when worn with nicer clothes. Just liek shoes, you wear them to protect your feet, and style them to look good enough with the rest of yoru clothes so that they don't stand out.
