Dog: "Powerful Chewer" -- Dog Toy Suggestions

I'm interested in seeing what other dog owners give their dogs who are considered "powerful chewers". I can't seem to find a single toy that my dog won't destroy in short notice. Seems like years ago when I had Pits that there were better heavy duty toys--or maybe I am just not educated enough yet.

Post what your dogs favorites are.

Note: My dog isn't the least bit destructive to anything other than his toys.

My dog has the same problem, and the only thing that seems to last are these:

http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3206977#prodTab1

It's HEAVY duty material for sure, and it has a bit of weight to it. These usually last a month or two at least, whereas other chew toys don't make it a week usually. The material also doesn't absorb slobber like a lot of things. It's basically a tennis ball wrapped in stitched nylon, with a squeaker thing stitched above that....

My dog will devourer anything I give him with the exception of those plastic bones. He really won't play with them.

His favorite bone so far is Pet Pride Rawhide roll from Kroger. It is about 2 feet long? He has it completed chewed up in about 3 days but they are so cheap it is ok. It does give him some nasty farts but I guess that is just how rawhide is for him.

The Kongs are pretty awesome.

This is the only toy we have found that was practically indestructable.

The older versions had a hole in the center you could put treats in. It is the only toy my uncles English bulldog could not destroy.

My mom bought one for her chocolate lab and it is the only thing she cant destroy.

They make them in quite a few different sizes as well.

I've had good luck with rope toys lately. They still destroy them, but it takes a lot longer. My dogs go through the "tough toys" in under an hour.

Edit: Like posted above, the Kong toys are great too.

Kong toys are made well. Only problem with my dog is he makes it his responsibility to start pulling around where the hole is. He does this until it pulls apart then he keeps at it until the whole toy is destroyed. They do last longer then normal toys but not long enough for my dog.

I agree...Kongs are good, I really like the Kong Wubbas as a fun toy that is pretty tough. It's a Kong covered in nylon basically. That's my #1 pick.

Also, it will totally gross you out at what they are, but check out bully sticks. Good for chewing for long periods of time but not really a toy I guess (just more of a distraction I suppose, good for puppies)...

Some more that were recommended on a dog forum I'm on (but that I have no experience with FYI)

Jolly Balls are another that comes to mind...

But you never know with the so-called "indestructible toys". My dog at 7 years old will gnaw through any toy within seconds if she really wants to. I guess it just depends on their determination! Good luck :)

The new kongs seem less strong then the older ones. They changed something with them a couple years ago.

10 years ago I think the Kongs were made out of adamantium

My dogs tear the shit out of toys, especially anything that has a "Squeaker" in it. X-mas came around and they had 3 toys ripped up and the squeakers rolling on the floor in about a minutes time.

Tug Ropes

THICK rubber toys with squeakers

Bones

Tennis balls

My dog is part Austrialian Cattle Dog, and they are well known for there jaw strengh and habit of chewing. Mine will split a tennis ball in 2 in one bite and thinks it is quite funny. Anyway, Kongs are the way to go. And don't get the red ones, get the black ones if they are heavy/strong chewers. Also a good rope toy works pretty well. I still end up replacing all my dogs toys about every 6 months because they are all destroyed.

I meant to take pictures of the last one he destroyed. I believe it was the medium-large size. Took him about 5 days before he got to work on it. He's pretty tenacious.

Mine's a boxer / lab mix. I don't mind replacing toys every three to six months, but every couple days is getting really old.

I will check that out. I think I've seen similiar ones in the stores, but they were a "cushy" material. He chews through the tire-bound toys.

I have no experience with these but I guess if your dog can destroy it they will replace it one time for free.

I meant a real tire. :p

her dog is APBT, so yes, she is a powerful chewer.. other things we give her that seem to make her happy, are empty soda bottles.. with the caps on... she loves to take the caps off.

Nyla Bone

That's a good one, but not all dogs really like those. When my Labs were younger, they chewed them on and off. But anything with a squeaker, particularly my Lab Sandi, she had to get that squeaker out. Now that they're older, they rarely chew that stuff. They sleep most of the time now... :)

I saw something like this a while back and a friend said they were good. My dog is not nearly as destructive to his toys as what you guys are talking about. But these are made from fire hose.

There is another one on that site with squeakers.
