nurkvinny
I assume you meant half to three quarter ton? I had a 94 GMC ext cab Z71 back in 99 and loved it. Only 3 doors kinda sucked, but had no kids back then.

BloodRed
I would agree any Ford or Chevy if you are going gas engine. If you go for diesel, make sure it has a Cummins in it.

Dave1647545494
diesel get a dodge I like the V8 gas motor chevy's better but the ford 300 straight 6 is indestructable if you can find one efi is almost as simple to troubleshoot and just as reliable as the chevy
Yasser-Hanbali
id say 2 of these guys should do the tick, just think of the cash you will save on gas http://www.farmschool.com/albc/ALBC_Photos/images/Clydesdale_jpg.jpg
twistedfocus1647545489
1st Gen Ford Lightning if you don't need to haul/tow really heavy loads. Cheap to mod and reasonably well built for a half-ton. No extended cab though. I hear there are a few around with turbos... Would be a neat toy. Guest tbutera2112
with that price range, its going to be easiest to find a chevy in terms of diesels...if youre looking for a gas truck, thats another story i had a 94 f150 with a 5.0... 150k and it ran like a champ the straight sixes are known to be bulletproof also...heres one a bit above your price range, but you might be able to haggle http://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/1660185459.html
