Another Vegas thread...

1. I understand you get what you pay for, especially in vegas, HOWEVER i want to spend as little on my room (while still being a nice place) so i can spend more on the drinking and debautchery you speak so highly of.

2. FUCK WALKING THE STRIP! seriously it will be the end of June when we're there, there's no way in hell im walking the strip in the middle of summer. I would like to see the town but only at night when everything's bright and shiny and causes my ADHD to kick into high fucking gear.

3. I (well, me and the girl) wanna eat some shrooms and see cirque de solei (spelling anyone?) at Treasure Island (cue the knocked up reference's). While we may not be the biggest shroom eating hippies, we do wanna see cirque de solei, and she wants to see the pirates vs hookers show (i think its literally called the pirates vs sirens, but im sure they'll be hot sweaty bitches running around with sharp objects no matter what)

4. One nice, quiet dinner where people address me by my last name and dare not mispronounce it and i have more silverware than i can count on two hands.

5. After 4 is done, as much drinking, partying and hot sweaty sex we can fit into the rest of our vacation. If we happen to find a nice, good looking girl with daddy issues we can persuade to join us.... all the better.

6. Hit up a strip club or two. I work at one here in town and my girl is cool about it so im sure she wouldnt mind if we went to "sight see" or just get wasted.

7. play blackjack, she loves slots.... slot machines.

After shopping on expedia I really like Treasure Island. It was fairly cheap (like 69$ a night average, our trip it would cost us 200 and change) Seem's nice and adult-ish. Has both of the shows we want to see and a really nice pool (only saw the pictures on their website though). However flight prices were fucking rediculous (maybe b/c its only a month away?) so i went to Airtran.com and found decent flights prices, around 300$ round trip per person. However from looking at the map TI looks like its on the far end of the strip (even though circus circus is farther) and out of all the hotels you mentioned none of them were TI :( so whats wrong with this place?

Oh and as for a budget, I have 2grand for 4 days. I understand thats not anything in a city like vegas but i figured i could have a pretty good time with that, no?

1. Okay, cool. Sounds like you've got the right mindset, at least from my perspective.

2. Yeah, I'm not down for walking around either. The Strip is a LOT bigger than what most people imagine. Unless you actually LIKE walking places, then it sucks to walk there, especially in the summer heat. I was there in August a few years ago and learned my lesson the hard way. By the way, before anyone says, "But it's a dry heat!" I'll also remind everyone that an oven is dry heat too but you don't see me putting my head in one.

3. Maybe I'm wrong here, but I don't think Cirque du Soleil is at Treasure Island. I know for a fact that Cirque du Soleil is at the Bellagio - they've been there for years. However, if they are also at Treasure Island then that is news to me. (I searched TI's website quickly and couldn't find anything on Cirque due Soleil being there.) Maybe you're confusing the Cirque du Soleil show (which is at the Bellagio and involves them jumping into a huge pool of water, I believe) with the TI show that they play every night that involves a big production of pirates and girls and shit jumping around on a shit and diving into water? (So, basically, both involve people doing acrobatic shit into water, just Cirque is at the Bellagio and the pirates are at TI.) IIRC, the TI show is free and happens at least once a night. I've seen it, and it's pretty cool. I haven't seen Cirque in Vegas, so I can't attest to it, but I'd imagine it has to be badass.

4. There's fine dining everywhere in Vegas. Pick your favorite type of food - e.g., seafood, Italian, etc. - then ask people at the hotel what they'd recommend.

5.

6.

7. You'll find plenty of slots and blackjack at any of the major casinos, TI included. TI is a fine casino - it'll have everything you'll need. If you opt to go there, I'm sure you won't be disappointed. TI is actually right in the "heart" of the Strip, so being there puts you in all of the action.

Here is probably the best value recommendation I can make. Stay at the Monte Carlo, Bellagio, or the new City Center hotel (name escapes me). I guarantee Monte Carlo will be cheapest -- however -- you have a tram that goes back and forth between all three until 4 in the fucking morning. Also, definitely book a package with airfare. We used Expedia. Your rate will be higher because you are going in the summer months.

The new stuff down in City Center is called Aria. IIRC correctly, they are just hotels and not casinos in Aria.

Its called "Mystere' by Cirque Du Soleil", it says its the "original classic Cirque Du Soleil" so maybe its an older show put on by the same performers? I dont know but it is on the front page of the TI website.

We'll keep looking at more expensive hotels but last i checked none were even in the same price range as TI.

Has anyone ever gone through a travel agent? I was recommended to go to Bexley travel agents b/c they dont charge the customer per trip (at least thats what im told). If not i will go through expedia most likely.

Here's my quick review on vegas and the places we've stayed..

Flamingo - DUMP but cheap and GREAT location and great pool surprisingly

Riviera - DUMP, way too far from the "strip" but had to stay here for a wedding

Treasure Island - Average, nothing fancy and small pool but good price

Monte Carlo - Decent place and good location. We were upgraded to a spa suite and the room was pimp. Pool area was a bit small

Bellagio - this place was awesome. We had fountain view which was amazing with the floor to ceiling windows. The pool area was spectacular. I think they have some killer deals going on here now

Mandalay Bay - Another upgrade here, normal room to the penthouse. Room was nothing short of fantastic. The pool here is so much fun, its a wave pool, with an actual beach. The bad thing about this hotel is that it's FAR away. It's the last hotel on the strip

The Cirque shows/other shows -

O - would see again. awesome

KA - was so drunk I passed out about 15 mins into it. need to see again but the group that saw it with me said it was awesome

Love - great if you enjoy the beatles

Mystere - didnt care for this one

The phantom - AMAZING. go see

Ice - lame iceskating show at the riviera but the skaters were smokin hot

Le Reve - not bad.. kinda an O wanna-be

Restaurants -

diablos cantina - fun mexican joint at the Monte carlo.. kinda pricey for an on the border style but oh well

Carnegie deli - 20 dollar deli sammiches but they are HUGE. HUUUUUUUUUGE

We usually go to a steakhouse so here are the ones we've been off the top of my head

Prime at the bellagio - best steak ever

SW Steakhouse at the wynn - been here twice. amazing

Stripsteak at Mandalay bay - was excellent but the seating was out in the walkway area so a little loud and not as private

delmonico at the venetian - this place was great. nice setting

cant remember all the others but damn, after writing about it; i need to get back to vegas

Walking the strip isnt that bad in the mid summer.. most of the times you'll cut through the hotels/shopping/casino and bypass the outdoors.

Okay, yeah then I'm wrong - sounds like TI has their own Cirque show. Sorry about that confunction. I wouldn't mind staying at TI - if you can get a deal there, and they have stuff there that you're interested in (e.g., the aforementioned Cirque show) then I'd jump all over it.

As for the travel agent, no, I haven't used one. However, I just heard someone the other day rave about using one, and they said it was cheaper than anything you can get online. Of course, this is one guy telling you something he heard from another guy, so this is just anecdotal at best. That being said, I'd still check out a travel agent - what could it hurt?
