Buck531
Anyone here in construction or used to do it? I'm debating on remodeling my kitchen sometime in the future and I need to bounce a few ideas off of someone. Our kitchen is an ok size. The previous owner built an addition onto the back and there's a door leading back into it. I'd like to knock this wall down but I'm pretty sure it's a load bearing wall and I'm not sure what all will be needed to do it correctly with a header or what not (or if it can be done at all). I can take some pictures if necessary. I'm free all day/night for the next few days. Other than that, anytime after 12 pm during the day I'll be home. Buck531
http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk314/buck531/Random/100_1008.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk314/buck531/Random/100_1007.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk314/buck531/Random/100_1010.jpg http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk314/buck531/Random/100_1009.jpg I'm sure the trusses run from the front to the back. That door there is where the end of the house used to be. It has a block foundation too, wood framing.
evan9381
if its load bearing, you should be able to put a couple 2x10s or 2x12s together with a piece of plywood down the center (will give you proper 3.5" framing width) for a header, then make some jacks and king studs and frame up the rest. thats what we did with my kitchen and the 12' opening
iwashmycar
One question may be if that additions ceiling is furred down?... May have to do some creative fitting of a header, depending on how (what i assume are) the rafters are hung on the exg house.
