Spotted: 2012 Jeep SRT-8

On my way to work last week I passed a new Grand Cherokee SRT-8 test vehicle. My camera phone couldn't get too good of a pic, but you can see it rides a little lower, black SRT rims, and it had large Brembo calipers 8)

What engine are they getting?

I'm seriously considering getting rid of my Colorado for a new Jeep and I'm torn between getting a loaded 2011 4x4, or waiting for the 2012 SRT8.

"Rumor" is a 6.4L with around a 12% power increase over the 6.1L.

the 6.1 Hemi will be replaced by a 6.4 (392) with cylinder deactivation, which has always been intended for SRT only; a new eight-speed automatic may join it eventually. Horsepower estimates range from 440 to 500 hp; something in the middle is likely.

those rumors always seem to be pretty accurate...its hard to keep word from getting out when thousands of people already know!

Mallard, who do you work for up here? I'm up at Rochester Hills now a little north of Detroit working in the auto industry.

Yeah, AllPar seems to know people inside Chrysler. They have a lot of credible information very early in development. Sometimes they miss a couple though.

Who do you work for?

I used to live in Rochester around the corner of Hamlin and Rochester Road. Actually my "Spy" photo's were on M-59 and Dequindre. Now I live in Washington Township.

I worked for Continental for 5 years where I tested, tuned, validated, released, bench-marked Electronic Stability Control systems for Chrysler products. I left there about 6 weeks ago and currently work for Takata.

ha! I live at Hamlin and Rochester Rd also...looked like a nice area and I didn't have much time to look around so I grabbed this apartment at the Oaks at Hampton. Coincidently, a few weeks ago, Ben Clarke and I were partyin at Adobe's at Easton in Columbus and I ran into the owner of the Bordine's Nursery here beside the apartments on Hamlin!

Anyways...oddly enough, I work at the Chrysler Tech Center in Powertrain Systems Development. So I may or may not have seen a few of these mysterious Jeeps driving around the area...lol

Sounds like a cool job. Since you never know who's reading the internet, I make sure I only cross post rumors from other sources and spy shots that have already been taken by Brenda Priddy. :)

How long have you been in Rochester? If you like good beer, be sure to check out Rochester Mills. I like the Rochester area for the number of hike/bike trails and the downtown area. If you like that sort of thing, also check out the Paint Creek Trail or Stony Creek Metropark. Doug used to live up here too...until he moved down south.
