I believe they fixed this exploit less than a week ago with an update. Pretty cool, nonetheless.

Yes, but many of us that are interested in modding our PS3's haven't updated since before they took away Linux.

You can do it with an Android phone too, well, until they released the last patch. It made it possible to play burnt games.
