ok so earlier i was on the fence about this whole thing but now that i have more info im extremely pissed off that they didnt do anything

Gene Cranick of Obion County and his family lost all of their possessions in the Sept. 29 fire, along with three dogs and a cat.

that really pisses me off!! if i ever lost my two dogs because of that, words wont be able to describe what i would do to the fire cheif and his minions.

WOW,

But you are not outraged that he thought that possibly his own, and apparently his pets lives weren't possibly worth a $75.00 payment ?

the guy fucked up, thats for sure, everyone has fucked one atleast once in their lives. but when there is a possibility to correct that fuck up and save the lives of innocent pets, then that should have taken priority over politics

one thing that i read on cincy about this and am curious, why doesnt the fire department just put out the fire and charge the insurance company, im sure that would have saved the insurance company a great deal of money. instead of them paying out 200k+. they would pay 1000-5000 for the service and probably 50k for damages (possibly more depending on how much the fire spread)

That would involve them having to do work that isnt what they typically have to do. They are putting 100% of the responsibility on the person so they dont have to deal with the insurance company trying to nickel and dime them. With all of the negative pub they have had I'm sure someone is thinking of a better way to handle this now.

I'm on the fence still.Them letting the house burn is fucked,Put it out and send him the bill.Yea he should have paid the fee ya it is his fault but come on.

Yeah. If he stiffs them on a $75 fee I'm sure he'll pony up to a $50K bill that comes to his mailbox.

The situation sucks but what everyone is trying to say is the guy brought it on himself.

minus a zero from that 50, but i couldnt imagine it being more than 5k to get them out and do their job. by the way, his neighbor even offered to pay for all their expenses to.

in the link i posted, they have a video interview with the home owner

A verbal agreement under duress from someone that multiple times has failed to pat the $75 annual fee.....I'm sure I can take that straight to the bank.

I'm sorry, I have a hard time empathizing with the fire department. I would have loaned the guy the money out of pocket/gave it to him something had I been around because that's fucking tragic.

that wouldnt have helped, the neighbor and home owner offered to give them the money on the spot for all their expenses but they still refused...

So a Fire dept in Tennessee let this guys house burn to the ground all because he didn't pay a $75 annual fee up front...

Yes but they can take him to court and what not, garnish his wages and so forth.Like i said i agree with the fact that it is his fault but its still wrong.

Yup. That wouldn't cost them any money either. They have plenty of time and funds to spend in court.

Doesn't make sense.

I want to be on the fire departments side but these heartless people in this thread make me want to be on his side. I do feel sorry for the guy because a mistake cost him his pets and belongings... Maybe its because I see real people when I read stories while the rest of you are desensatized to real life due to too much interwebs.

Its 100% his fault but I dont get how people are acting like he deserves it. Not paying $75 is a mistake, not a justified sentence of death by the karma police. He fubar'd bad.. the end.

im sure the city has their own lawyer so it probably wouldn't cost them much of anything.

now i by no means know much about lawyers and stuff like that but doesn't the district attorney work for the city and fight their battles for them? kind of like when the city is prosecuting someone for murder?

Again, he had it happen before and "forgot" again? I can't buy that. Sorry.

I also don't think anyone "deserves' to lose everything, but it's not the firemens fault.

I'll say it again: Let me drive your car into a tree w/o insurance and tell you to call any insurance company to come see the trashed vehicle an pay for it. Is it the insurance comapanies responsibility or mine?
