evan9381
Like the FD said, if they allowed people to pay the fee on the spot, no one would pay it unless they had a fire. i dont feel bad for the guy...
russian rocket
ok so earlier i was on the fence about this whole thing but now that i have more info im extremely pissed off that they didnt do anything Gene Cranick of Obion County and his family lost all of their possessions in the Sept. 29 fire, along with three dogs and a cat. that really pisses me off!! if i ever lost my two dogs because of that, words wont be able to describe what i would do to the fire cheif and his minions. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/39516346/ns/us_news-life/?GT1=43001

Otis Nice
one atleast once in their lives. Yeah. Apparently this is the 2nd time it has happened to him though according to another post. Fool him once, shame on you. Fool him twice, he cooked his pets.

They are putting 100% of the responsibility on the person so they dont have to deal with the insurance company trying to nickel and dime them. With all of the negative pub they have had I'm sure someone is thinking of a better way to handle this now.

Yeah. If he stiffs them on a $75 fee I'm sure he'll pony up to a $50K bill that comes to his mailbox. The situation sucks but what everyone is trying to say is the guy brought it on himself. Veritas
I'm sorry, I have a hard time empathizing with the fire department. I would have loaned the guy the money out of pocket/gave it to him something had I been around because that's fucking tragic.

Yup. That wouldn't cost them any money either. They have plenty of time and funds to spend in court. Doesn't make sense.
V8 Beast
I want to be on the fire departments side but these heartless people in this thread make me want to be on his side. I do feel sorry for the guy because a mistake cost him his pets and belongings... Maybe its because I see real people when I read stories while the rest of you are desensatized to real life due to too much interwebs. Its 100% his fault but I dont get how people are acting like he deserves it. Not paying $75 is a mistake, not a justified sentence of death by the karma police. He fubar'd bad.. the end. Doesn't make sense. im sure the city has their own lawyer so it probably wouldn't cost them much of anything. now i by no means know much about lawyers and stuff like that but doesn't the district attorney work for the city and fight their battles for them? kind of like when the city is prosecuting someone for murder? I also don't think anyone "deserves' to lose everything, but it's not the firemens fault. I'll say it again: Let me drive your car into a tree w/o insurance and tell you to call any insurance company to come see the trashed vehicle an pay for it. Is it the insurance comapanies responsibility or mine?
