Mr. Jones
W8 is also available with a 6 speed. However, unless you find a low mileage W8 with impeccable oil change records, they are a hell of a gamble.
Patterson
In a wagon? I guess so, even harder to find though. Im looking at the wait 4motion model.
BIGGU
legacy GT, not biased or anything just make sure you get one with a good transmission.
Mr. Jones
In a wagon? I guess so, even harder to find though. Im looking at the wait 4motion model. I'll tell you what is funny, there were 2 W8 6 Speed wagons for sale this summer. ( I was secretively wanting one too). Both sold INSTANTLY. If you keep your ear to the ground you can find one. Exhaust makes them sound wonderful. Great highway cars.
Patterson
The LGT manuals are the same way. When they are for sale, they cant be bought. And no one ever sells them.

BIGGU
WRX Wagon. when it comes to insurance legacy > WRX. my 08 with full coverage is retarded cheap when regarding insurance.
CRed05
W8? You don't want that. They are cool, but anything but reliable....or so the rumor goes.
Mr. Jones
W8? You don't want that. They are cool, but anything but reliable....or so the rumor goes. Their reliability "rumors" stem from the same place 1.8T reliability "rumors" come from. Poor oil change intervals with crap oil. Their cam tensioners have micro fine mesh filters in them that get clogged easily and cause the tensioners to need to be replaced. Replacing the tensioners = Remove engine & tranny from car, separate and go at it. There are plenty of W8's in the 100k+ range with no problems thanks to the owners changing the oil every 3-5K with good synthetic.
CRed05
Makes sense, but this was coming from a bunch B5 S4 owners, which is kind of scary. If I found one for a good price I'd buy it, but not if there are S4's floating around.
Mojoe
On my second Legacy GT just because of a crazy deal I got on it. Nothing but regular maintenance and dominating the road.
Mr. Jones
Yes but Subaru's are for gays, and they are about as refined as a lump of coal.
Patterson
WRX Wagon. Remember, three rodents. A van would make sense but nooooo. This will be the first car I've had a payment on in a few years, and I figure I deserve it. As well as the wife.
Aaron
I would look into 1.8T 4 mo manuals. Rare as well, but proven drivetrain. Also A4 avants in both engines.
Bam
LGT for sure.

thorne
legacy GT, not biased or anything just make sure you get one with a good transmission. the lgt 5speed gear set is pretty strong to. I would go lgt hands down.
Draco-REX
I, with my ultimately biased opinion, vote for the Subaru.
Patterson
I drove the W8 today, cool car, but funky squeels from the front of the motor. The Tensioners possibly? A little digging in the glove box found an old work order form last year for head gaskets, and timing chains at a VW dealer in Cleveland. I'm gonna have it inspected Next week at a friends VW shop to see just what the deal is. This is the problem with the 7-9K range that I'm looking at. Nice cars but at the point in life where problems are starting to pop up, or they've been sorta addressed.
Aaron
What about a C5 A6 2.7T? Allroad 2.7T? Both come in manual.

If you found one that already had the chains/tensioners done recently, you're probably safe for a long while with good oil change habits. Like Aaron was saying, the Allroad can be had with a manual, AND IT CAN RAISE ITSELF MAGICALLY OVER SNOW! WeeeEEEEEeeeee.

First thing that would be gone on an allroad would be the suspension. lol I love the look of the c5 allroad. Its a shame they never made the 2.7T avant though. TTQ B4U
LGT if it were me. VW W8 Wagon is kinda different cool, but I wouldn't want to deal with any repairs on that baby. At least with the Subi you could even do just mild mods, have plenty of power and reliability.
zeitgeist57
I've had my B5 V6 Passat since new, over 102k miles on it now. Do NOT get a W8.
