wagner
I got a Mossberg 500 for Christmas So what kind of support gear and ammo should I get? I want a cleaning kit and a case to keep it in. I did see some cloth cases on Vance's site that looked about what I was thinking of.
Doc1647545523
cleaning kit and case are the necessities, everything else depends on what uses you plan to put it to. Vances and Dick's have good prices, as do a number of the other big stores. I like to take a stroll through Black Wing to get an idea of what's available. Even though I'm a member there and I shoot there, I don't buy much of my accessories there. If you want to come up and stroll through the place, call me. I've also got a ton of trap/skeet shooting tokens.
Benner
Gillie suit and 10x scope. You're gonna be Sniping deer at 400 yards with a shotgun.

Ok, wife is still in sleep mode, in-laws are still in town, and not sure what brother in-law is doing. After they all figure out what is going on I will send up the Doc signal and we shall ride
Not Brian
My brother got an adjustable stock/pistol grip with his.. I messed around and didn't really see the usefulness of it unless the normal one doesn't fit your shoulder well. Also Wal-Mart sells these for like $3, other than that there aren't many other useful upgrades for a shotgun imo.. http://images.bidorbuy.co.za/user_images/939/420939_Shell-Holder1.jpg

I did read there is a way to up the amount of ammo it can hold too. I have a very bad feeling this is going to become just like my car addiction..... Take Doc's advice, shop around for a nice case, cleaning supplies and good deals on ammo. Practice is what makes a good shooter. Put some rounds through it and familiarize yourself with the weapon. I'd recommend a boresnake for cleaning. I have one of the sleeves like Brian posted on each of my shotguns, they are useful.

Mitch
i already have a case, cleaning, and ammo... i can't buy a stock and light? Do whatever you like, to your gun. There is no right or wrong, but there is a lot of tacky junk out there to waste money on. To each their own.

Avenger1647545502
Just my opinion, grain of salt and all that....take the shotty out and use it as is. Put a bunch of rounds through it, see what you like and what you don't...THEN worry about what you want to accessorize it with. And as far as "tactical" stuff goes...read the reviews online from others who have bought it. If 90% of the opinions are "OMG this is so badass looking" then odds are it doesn't actually WORK well. Well said. I have a friend with an AR and it's pretty geared up. I shot it and hated how it felt. It looked cool though. Just didn't function for me. And that's what I need in a weapon is function. Scotty2Hotty
To really get a good feel for it, snag some 2 3/4" and 3" 00 Buck. Wouldn't hurt to toss a few slugs through it aswell, to see the difference in ammunition. Each ammo patterns and hits a little different. But, a 12 gauge shotgun is about the most versatile weapon in the world.
