removing smoke from a house

I would imagine new carpet and padding and fresh pain throughout will do the trick. If the seller wants to move the house, just work with your realtor to get it done. When we bought our house, prior to making the offer our realtor suggested the owners replace all the carpet and have the house painted. It was solid advice, they did it all and in the end we bought a house in perfect move in condition.

Long stroy short a friend got a house that had been smoked in since it was built in the 1200. Oddly enough he got it since sh(former owner)e died of lung CA. Either way cleaning companies specialize in the shit. He priced q couple places, they came out and cleaned everything. Walls, vents, hvac, everything and now you can't tell AT ALL it had been smoked in.

Of course you'll have to factor this into the price or negotiate it into the contract

Scrubbing the walls and getting rid of the carpeting would do wonders but not sure about the exposed beams.

When we bought out house in Dayton we didn't realize it was a smokers home. They had it covered up well when we went on the tour. After we bought it and it was empty, you couls smell it and see the yellowing on the walls.

We got some good carpet cleaner and scrubbed the carpets, bleached the tile floors and used Kilz Oil based primer on every wall and ceiling. After that, not s single hint of smoke smell, but it was a hell of a lot of work.

Unless this is THE house you want, look for another or be prepared to do a lot of cleaning.

girlfriend works for a reconstruction company that deals with fire/mold/water damage and things of the like. She said, an ozone or hydroxyl generator should pull it out, said there should be no problem with the exposed beams.

The whole subdivision used to be a giant private nature preserve. The big house at the end of Walnut Hull (hang a right off of Duncan's Glen) was the owner's estate. He was some world famous inventor and explorer (I can't remember his name). Anyway, he had a huge horse farm there and my grandpa was the head trainer there in the 30's and early 40's.
