Worked up my first handloads this weekend.

175 grain Sierra Matchking in a 308 with 43 grains of Varget. Worked the load from 43 to 44.1 incrementally. 43 seemed to be the best. But, I want to make larger batches of a few others just solidify the test.

All in all, I'm happy with the results.

What equipment are you using?

Nice Job. 100 yards? 3 or 5 shot group? What were you getting with factory loads?

3 shots. 100 yards. Worked up 4 loads using Varget.

Factory loads were SSA 175g SMK's. The group with SSA was about as small as these in my old gun. In my new gun they do not group as well as these hand loads. My new gun only has 600 rds on it though. Barrel is just now broken in. Glad these hand loads tightened up! I didn't do much better than half-pack in the first competition I shot using it.

As an added point. any other 308 loaders in the group please feel free to share your loads. I am contemplating moving to the 175 TMK as it's BC is far superior to the SMK. Thoughts? Or maybe we should just make another thread?

Start a thread.

You loading 9mm subsonic loads yet? Curious to hear what you're getting good results with.

If you're not rocking VLDs or hybrids, you're missing out.

Also, trade that .30 cal bbl in for something in the 6-6.5mm flavor.

TMK 175 has a bc of .545 @ lower than average velocities...Which stays supersonic past 1k (this excites me as they are half the cost of Berger 180's).

As for caliber change... I will eventually buy a 6.5cm barrel for it. But I'd really like to learn/load on 308 as I have about 2 years experience (3500 rds) with 175smk, first things first. Figure out a baller 175smk and 175tmk load. Then in 2016 look at the 6.5cm barrel. The positive in all this is that my receiver has an Allen key that I can loosen and then the barrel just hand-threads out to swap for 4 diff calibers. Next year will be a year of nugget experimentation.

building a budget loaner gun for a buddy for an upcoming carbine class.

Painted with Aervoe Field Drab. Really impressed with this paint. Even coats, nice and flat, but not chalky. Tough to scratch off as well. Not as durable as Cerakote. But I think its a great alternative for 6.00/can.

All the "flakes" are my fault for spraying too far away from the gun....

I don't usually like posting the guns I have but since there seem to be some cool stuff in here I don't mind adding two from the collection. Both were build for specific reason, the first is a Remington 700 in 260 built for my 2016 PRS gun. The second is a 9mm AR built with a Quarter Circle 10 Glock lower that I put together for work. Both have paperwork completed and sent in for suppressors.

Cool bro, give me your serial numbers too so I can go ahead and put them on the weapons MAL when I steal them since I know what you have now
