Hip and knee took most of the impact. http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa72/mckinney16/306200_2990181559880_1065686154_n.jpg

Sturg1647545502
Got the bike tuned up and properly ready to roll...finally. This all started with finding a cracked rear wheel in Feb..which lead to a new set Mavic Kyserium elites, which lead to a new campy cassette, which lead to a new chain and tune up. After spending a decent amount of time on my trainer this winter my back tire was shot so i went a head and got some new rubber(Michelin pro2's on close out). damn near a new bike and really exited to feel how it rides. I dont what tires you guys run(typically i'm down for what ever is cheapest) but the pro2's i had before were super comfortable and cushy. http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk57/snowdoc83/IMAG0567.jpg Edited March 30, 2012 by Sturg

evan9381
Anyone interested in a group ride tomorrow from new albany? About 41 miles, some hills just before half way, 14-17mph pace. Got a few down to ride already, the more the merrier.

evan9381
http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/79907021 Couldnt get anyone to commit to the new albany route today, and i didnt want to ride country roads like those solo, so i decided to ride olentangy, then a couple loops up high street thru campus (and damn the women out today looked good) all in all, 41.xx miles. Perfect day to ride. A little cool at the start, but warmed up by about 1-130.
ross
I did 12.4 miles on the Heritage Trail today. Nothing spectacular but its a start for me.
evan9381
couple rides from last week. this was just an after work casual ride with a buddy, 16 mile route around gahanna, nothing fast, like a 14 average, if that. http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/80546171 then saturday, i got with some guys i had never ridden with before...showed up, first guy and his g/f start busting out with some higher end bikes full dura-ace, etc, and then more people start showing up, same thing. im thinking "shit, i hope i didnt bite off more than i can chew". talked to the guy organizing it, he said just to keep on someones wheel, catch the slipstream, and i'd be ok....scheduled for 50-55 miles, and he's talking an 18-20mph pace (quicker than i usually ride, especially for that distance) first 27 or so, everything good. was doing better than i thought i would be. we stop for a minute to re-route as the road was shitty, get back to riding, right away hit a horrible rough road for about a mile. turn onto another road, and a couple miles later, i get a flat. awesome. of course as im pulling up the rear, no one heard me to know i had a flat. pull over, start to pull the tire off, and the lead guy comes back. i get it back together, and tire isn't seating correctly, right at the valve. brand new tube, junk. another couple guys come back, luckily one had a spare tube i could use and a new co2 cartridge. time down is about 10 minutes. i start riding again, and im DEAD. the break from riding to stopping to riding killed. couldnt keep with the group, finally i just said fuck it, i can get back...still tried to push myself, but wasn't able to keep more than about 17mph. one of the guys ended up dropping back and riding the last 6 or so miles with me, i told him he could go ahead, but he stuck back it was probably the hardest ride i've done in 3 years of riding. 51.74mi, when i checked my cyclometer, my actual ride time was 2:51:16, which comes up to a moving average of like 18.15. i'm super happy with that, especially since that includes slowing for intersections, turns, and of course my ass limping back the last 10 miles or so. i think i'll keep working and wait a while before trying to ride with those guys (and girl) again. or at least wait until they plan to do just a bit slower pace. i'm just not up to their level yet. as hard as it was though, it was a great ride. it was awesome riding in a group with 8 other people. got some useful tips from some of the guys who have been at it for a while. http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/81590695

Science Abuse
Met a guy riding from Columbus to Cincinnati this weekend... met him in Cincinnati, so he was successful. Looks like you can get from Big Darby to near downtown Cincinnati on bike trails alone. Any interest in long distance camp-rides?

Don't be such a poof.... easy for me to say, my bike probably weighs as much as yours + overnight kit. This guy seemed to have a lot of crap, even if he was sleeping outside. You could easily get by with 15lb or less. The trail comes within ear-shot of Kings Island, not to mention passing through some towns, so finding a hotel down here would be no problem either. evan9381
15lbs is almost what my bike weighs. i noticed a huge difference going from a 21-22# bike to a 16-17#. Part of it too is i gotta get into day after day long distance rides. Gonna try to do the 2 day 180mi on pelotonia, but itll depend how hard i can train this year
Science Abuse
So what's the deal on these organized distance rides? Do you pay a fee and just ride, or do you raise funds to gain entry? I'm interested but haven't looked into them much yet, training for a marathon at the moment.
ross
When it gets closer to Pelotonia, I'll give you guys riding in it my cell # in case you need anything on the route. I'll be doing motorcycle escort and will have spare tubes, tires, some tools, and 1st aid with me.

I'm interested but haven't looked into them much yet, training for a marathon at the moment. Depends...some you pay a fee to ride in, some you have to raise funds or commit to raising "x" dollars, some you just find a bike club to ride a route with. Many options out there. Ross, awesome of you to offer. I never have issues until i get on long rides. The flat saturday was a fine example. Luckily i carry most stuff i can swap out in my bag. ross
Last year I met a guy that had a flat about 6 miles into the event. He had just made the turn off of high st south of downtown and popped a tube. He replaced that tube with his spare and pinched it when he put it in. I called for a mechanical sag vehicle for him but stuck around and talked to him for a bit. I ended up riding up the road a few miles and found the Kenda truck and got a bunch of spares from him. I met up with the rider at the first rest stop and he had ridden in a medical sag vehicle to the first stop because no one had a spare in his size.
