My dad has a 76 AMX Hornet and its just been sitting in a field for a long time. Last time i remember it being driven is when i was in first grade. I have been bugging him to get it out and to work on it but he's stubborn. I was wondering if it would be a waste of time and effort or if its still salvageable. Ill get pics of it next time im there.

You never know...AMC had good metal in those cars, so the body might be okay. It's all the REST of the parts that could be a problem. Engine parts are expensive if its a V8 but not bad for the I6, suspension bits are tough to find, interior stuff is utterly non-existant...I'd say go for it though. If nothing else, at least you tried to preserve something cool.

I say it is probably possible to bring it back. There are plenty of parts out there if you know where to look. There is a great AMC parts dealer in West Jefferson called Kennedy American call 879-SAVE.

If nothing else find another Hornet and use it as a parts car. Can I low ball you an offer?

i say pull it out of its rut and take a good look at the underside, spray it down real good with a hose if its covered in mud. if there is a considerable amount of rust, it may not be worth salvaging, might be possible, but it could require deep pockets if its too far gone.

your right, the 401 is referring to engine size, super t-10 would be a transmission and the 4.56 gears would be the ring and pinion in the rear axle, doesnt look too far gone from the pics, but the underside would tell the full story once you get it up off the ground. should be a really cool project though if you can get it going
