Nickey4271647545519
I was in northen Michigan a few weeks ago. And played around the manual setting on the camera. Thought I took a couple decent pictures. Figured some of you might enjoy them. Feel free to tell me what I could have done to get a better picture, I'd like to learn some as well. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y98/Corvette454l88/IMG_4639.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y98/Corvette454l88/IMG_4638.jpg
Aaron
Walk to the edge of wherever you were standing, so its just water, boat and sky for one thing. Its blurry or camera sucks, or both. Could have been a great picture though.

Rocky31186
Great photo regardless of quality. Next time find something to set your camera on. If you don't have a tripod with you.
TTQ B4U
I can't see the exif of the image, but as others have said a tripod would help. Shoot low ISO but with moving ships you do have to account for movement there so adjust shutter and conversly ISO appropriately. Given the shot and sun set, perhaps shoot this same scene when the colors are a bit higher in the sky. You did well framing the ship in the 1/3 section to the left, now just consider putting the horizon in the bottom 1/3. That would work for this image as you'll emphasize the colors in the sky and horizon. One could frame it the other way if you're looking to emphasize the forground such as a beach or something, but again, here I would move the horizon down a bit. Still a very usable image and one that can be corrected and printed in a number of ways. Here's are examples from the South Haven Area: http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/100131525/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/100111884/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/100132030/original.jpg Another from Florida: http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/114215160/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/114277858/original.jpg Hope that helps. TTQ B4U
here's my attempt to crop it from my iPad http://i541.photobucket.com/albums/gg378/pdqgp/993d561f.jpg Lame iPad attempt to have fun with it. http://i541.photobucket.com/albums/gg378/pdqgp/ea8dff1e.jpg
Tractor
I like the compositions just fine. On a photo of that type you should at least crop to straighten the horizon as much as possible, it really fixes the photo. Besides that they are just outside of the camera's ability without a tripod. Lightroom could fix the noise and photoshop could remove motion blur pretty well if you wanted, but obviously its still best to just get it right while taking the photo. EXIF was 1/8th sec, F/3.1 @ ISO

Berto
If you have a tripod, I would try to shoot something like that at F16. The apperture blades give a cool 'star burst' effect from every light source.
TTQ B4U
If you have a tripod, I would try to shoot something like that at F16. The apperture blades give a cool 'star burst' effect from every light source. I'll add however that at f/16, the diffraction will cause the image look as fuzzy as it does here. Especially on a crop body camera. Add to it, the long exposure needed, it would likely be worse since the boat and water movement would be blurred. Would be interesting to see some shots performed like that though. I In terms of the star burst effect, I would tend to shoot the image with a lower f/stop that minimizes motion blur and then post process it.
