This is what I thought about when I saw it. I read about this car in Hotrod mag a few years ago. IIRC the guy why the 57 did it because people told him it couldn't be done. I was telling a friend about just this past Friday.
Green Bastard
I hope they don't have solid lifters, that would be a bitch to have to set the valve lash every so many thousand miles (if its a driver). Otherwise its a cool setup. They definately need small snails to be spooled by one piston each.
ImUrOBGYN
I love the use of a pressure cooker, as well! Of course, that could've been used to build a Railway Rifle. It's sad some people are unable to appreciate innovation and outside the box thinking.
Orion
...When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, but a miniature sleigh, and... 8 Tiny Turbos ...with a little old driver, so lively and quick, I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick. Lol, that ride even looks a bit like a sled. Did he bring you all presents and ask if you wanted to sit on his lap?

V8's are a very tricky setup, namely because of pulses being in-and-out of phase on similar banks; Hence, BMW's inverted heads and medusa manifolds (M63). With relatively short piping (low thermal loss) they may make out OK on the exhaust side. The cold side however, is most likely undersized. "3 cylinder turbo diesel from a Kubota" is somewhat vauge. While the exhaust side sizing may be in the zip code, the compressor's, or more speicifc, inducer may be choking pretty quick in the upper RPMs of the V8's range.
