zeitgeist57
The Passat has some seriously cupped tires that I'm replacing. However, the Chinese eBay-special wheels that I got 5 years ago are corroded and one of them may be bent from a recent, awesome pothole. Wheels are 18x8. I'm looking at getting some new wheels, and in order to save a buck on a 156k mile DD that will last a few more years. Any shame in moving down from an 18" to 17" wheel/tire combo? Found some great deals, and I've always liked how a clean set of shoes makes the car. Cordell
Nice new 17s are way better then old worn 18s. Besides at least a little more sidewall will lessen the chance for pothole damage. Personally I wouldn't upsize my rims on my daily, but it varies a little if the car came with small wheels. POS VETT
Why not go with 16" wheels ? Lighter, nicer ride, even lower price for both tire and wheel, and less likely to be damaged by a pothole.

NEVER make a "hey what do you think of these rims" post on columbusracingwheelexperts.com.
AudiOn19s
I told myself like 5 years ago my Audi only had a few more years of service in it...................... just clicked 211k this morning on the way to work.
Aaron
Not a fan of the white stripe around it. Ryan probably lives it... Check out alzor wheels from ecs tuning. They have OEM designs and are cheap too. I'd go 17s as tire price jumps up at 18.

iwashmycar
I too vote, as small as possible. Also go as light as possible. Will make the car more peppy and fun to drive as well.
Mr. Jones
20's or bust. :gabe: My C5 A6 back in the day ran 235/45/17 and had a great comfy ride. 45 Is about as big as I'd go to avoid having the sidewall feel all squirmy and groce.
