"Building my kid a lowered radio flyer wagon"

Let's all tell him why it's possibly unsafe for our own children.

OP, I think it's awesome that you're doing this project with your son. From previous posts, he's clearly a gearhead in training and I'm sure he's going to have a blast through the building process and actually using his creation when it's completed.

exactly, everyone needs to stfu.

I pay no mind to what others think, in fact the more people talk shit the more it pushes me to continue on lol. My kid is a total gearhead in the making, ask anyone on here who has met him in person. Hell we had to go to Mopar tonight in Heath because he saw racecars and wanted to go see them. I would never do anything for attention through him. I never think, "hmm let me do something for my kid in order to gain street cred" lo. I only posted this on here cause I figured there may be others on here interested in doing the same thing for their kid. I will have a detailed build sheet, including what you need, how much of it, where to get it and how much it all cost.

First things first the new hubs came in.

Secondly I went to the junkyard today and came across a Chevy c10 pickup truck. I got to looking at the mirror and thought it'd look cool on the wagon, so I grabbed it. For $2 I couldn't go wrong. I am going to tear it apart and have it blasted/coated to match the wagon

Lastly the wagon is back from the powder coater and I absolutely love the color. I will snap a couple more pics later today and post them up on here. I can't wait to see my little guys reaction to it being done.

So I have been going back and forth on how I was going to build the front suspension. I wanted to keep it some what simple, yet make sure it worked 100%. Leave it to my dad to be here 10 minutes and come up with an idea that uses the stock stuff.

I went to Home Depot the other day to grab the stuff to make front and rear axles, 5/8 all thread is what I got. I also picked up these long bolts that I was going to keep the wheel on with as a big lug nut. Well those are now being used as part of the axle. I'll show you what I mean..

This is the piece I picked up from Home Depot (4 of them actually)

http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy218/guy_from_nerk/1011648_10151796929716907_821617905_n_zps1baedf45.jpg

This is the stock front suspension, where my finger is pointing to is the portion that is to be cut off

http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy218/guy_from_nerk/574501_10151796928986907_1494773080_n_zps39cfd792.jpg

Here it is after it has been cut down

http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy218/guy_from_nerk/539677_10151796938256907_1409862796_n_zps44c902e1.jpg

Now take the long nut and put it over the portion of the stock axle you cut down

After you weld this on, you can then thread the all thread into it and secure the wheel with a jam nut on either side

My buddies have gotten in on the action and donated stuff here and there. Today my buddy gave me a set of Stanley side markers from a 1983 Yamaha Varago.

I am hoping to finish the chassis up tomorrow, get it all welded and painted. After that it will be a little wiring for headlights that will be ran through a 6v battery and a nitrous switch equipped shift handle.

Are you going to use a bushing on the wheels? Aren't you concerned that the all-thread will gall up the wheel or bushing or do you plan on machining the threads off of the all-thread where the wheel will ride?

Like I said. Older kids would be fine in it. I'm just not going to put 10mo-1yr old kids in it and that's the age my boys are now. I don't baby them. They'll have guns n 4wheelers in a few years. We live out in the country and so they'll get crazy. I just don't want to put them in something at the age they are at now where they don't understand what they're doing such as putting hands in spokes of wheels, grabbing shit, etc

Nice "I didn't mean to say some dumb shit previously" post. Worry about the bubble you place around your own kids. Meanwhile I've gotta go put more Jack in my kids formula.

Always thought it would be cool to do a hybrid powerwheels/radio flyer wagon setup. A wagon with the motor and battery setup.

We used to ride our wagons down this massive hill in my backyard when I was around 5

It's lowere than stock, the more I thought about it the less I wanted it "slammed"

Is the front done? Looks odd with the wheels that far out. Can you bring them closer to the tub while still retaining the full turning radius? And if they have to stay that far out, are you planning on doing any more than just the single bar going from the tub to the front axles? I think if it has to stay that far out you can design something that looks a little more appealing. (If you wanted of course, just figured after everything else youve done youd want to have the front end look more "Complete" instead of unfinished, which is how i see it now)

I see what you're saying now that I look at it a little more. I just mocked it up with out such a stretch and it does look better. Now the question will be does it clear the tub. I need to finish the axles up, so I can put the wheels out where they are supposed to sit. In the pic I posted above they are just placed to hold the stock swivel piece together. You have a better solution? Ever built one of these? If you answered no to either of these your input isn't worth a shit to me really. Go look at how almost every one of these are made, damn near all of them run a single bar from under the pan to the front. I don't really need to defend myself or get anyone's approval for that matter. I find it funny that people have negative things to say about anything and everything these days.

My 3 year old loves it, that's really the only approval I need ;)

Is it going to pivot under the tub, or at the wheels? I would almost make it pivot at the tub, then the wheels could be alot closer..

Looking good, Im just going to pick up a radio flyer all terrain for my boy.. Maybe alter that sometime

Its pivoting out at the wheels.

I just flipped it over and it does look better. I am all for opinions and ideas as long as they don't come off as asshole comments. Being the first wagon I have done and no write up on how to do it I think it's turned out alright. I really think people are basing their opinions off the picture posted, which admittedly does the wagon no justice.
