The_buster
I installed an aftermarket stereo in the maxima, It originally had the Bose system in it. The previous owner already removed the bose head unit and had a working aftermarket stereo he took out when we traded. The stereo turns on, but the antennae wont go up nor do I have any sound at all. No buzzing or static or anything. Is there a was to test speakers to see if they work? Im hoping I don't have to run new speaker wire. wagner
I'm just going to put this out there now, if you are not going to offer help, don't post. This is not the kitchen free-for-all section...
jeffro
This may sound silly, but start from the top. Are you in the correct mode? IE, radio, and not CD or MP3 line in?
The_buster
I've tried all modes, even hooked my phone into the aux in spot and it still has no sound.
Not Brian
If the old stereo worked what makes you think it would be the speakers?
The_buster
The stereo I got is brand new and the right rears paper is torn, so i know it need replaced. I was hoping it would be that easy.

The_buster
is there a way to hook something to a speaker to see if its working? Then maybe I could narrow down where the wiring issue is.
Nickey4271647545519
Did you get the AZ special DUAL? There's always a chance of it being bad out of the box.
Browning
if there's built in amps that would explain why the speakers wouldn't work. You'll have to power the amplifier some way. To test the speakers you'll need to run wire straight from the head unit to them.
The_buster
yes the stereo is a dual from work. i got it free for winning a contest at work.
-Alex-
Put the working stereo back in, sell Dual for $20.
Green Bastard
Did you use an install kit, and is it wired correctly?
The_buster
the previous owner took the stereo. his girlfriend wanted it. ill have to run some wire to the speakers over the weekend.
The_buster
I had a friend look it over, he went to school for aviation electronic stuff I guess, he said it was hooked properly. I used butt connectors, there was already the wiring kit in the car same as we sell.
Not Brian
after wiring up my surround sound, I had a mass of wires sticking out the wall next to my receiver. The way my buddy told me to test to see which wires go to what speaker was to rub the wires on a 9V battery and that specific speaker will play some static.. Not sure if that's a good way to test if a speaker is good or bad though, I guess.
87GT
When I replaced the head unit in my i30 I had to buy something like this http://www.crutchfield.com/p_142C4NN03/Scosche-CNN03-Factory-Integration-Adapter.html Bose speakers run on 1ohm and most aftermarket are 4? There is a sticky thread on maxima.org that was very helpful.

Edit, even without one of those adapters you should be able to get some sound out of the speakers. As others have said check for an on-speaker amp and make sure it is getting 12v. Geeesammy
It will be easier to buy a harness. Just start fresh. I went trough this with my Supra. It literally makes it so easy anyone can do it. Match the harness wires that are labeled with the corresponding wire on the stereo, test it out, then wrap the connections in electrical tape to ensure they stay put. Not sure if that is how everyone does it but it worked for me.
The_buster
there is an amp on the left rear. the other didn't come with the car. a guy that works at honda is junking his maxima this winter, so I'm going to raid it for parts. the amp is hooked up with the plug in.
