New tires discussion

I went to Derek, as always, for a balancing and alignment since I jumped the Saab about two feet in the air a couple of months back.

He did a great job per usual but informed me that my tires were nearing 25%.

Interesting since I bought the Saab back in May with 95% tread.

Apparently I drive the car hard enough to wear it down to 25-30% in 14,000 miles.

Derek just sent me his recommendations

Michelin pilot sport as3

Toyo proxes plus

Pirelli cintaurato p7

And per my request, continental dws

Derek recommends the Pirelli while discouraging the dws.

What are your thoughts?

Thank you for enlightening me on this. They were already on there and was new. Hated them from day one when I got the car. And yes they are horrendous in the snow.

I think he was just trying to esplaine the low millage you got out of the tire.

I have the DWS on my CTSv - replaced a set of BFG Super Sports. Here are my observations:

Positives:

Very quiet

Ride well

Seem to stick pretty well

Good wear

Negatives

Very soft sidewall...slow to respond to steering inputs

Vibrations when cold...fine when warm

Clearly they ride well and are quiet because of the soft sidewall which impacts the feel. I would accept a bit more noise and a choppier ride for a bit more sporting feel.

I've been extremely disappointed in my OEM Goodyear Eagle F1s. I've been extremely satisfied with my Goodyear Ultragrip Ice winter setup.

Conclusion; read the reviews on Goodyear before you buy, I've always had success with Michelins and Bridgestone (for winter).

My Conti Extreeeeme contact on the Mustang have lasted me years of hard driving/stopping/driving like a mustang owner. They probably have 30k on them now and are being replaced in the spring. Obviously performance tires aren't milage tires and that Saab being your DD make sure to keep that in mind.
