The laptop has to stay plugged in at all times or the battery runs out in less than 3 minutes. She's looking at I pads for the portability to take to school. Right now it's a toss up between the new air or a refurbished 4th gen. Spec wise the air is better but you can get the refurbished ones for about 150 less I think. Also on amazon you can get the 4th gen and a 3 year warranty instead of the two year at the apple store for less. Anyone have any input? She should just buy a different, lighter laptop. It will be more functional (because it will actually have a physical keyboard), it will have more memory, and it will likely cost less. I have no idea what they cost, but I'm sure if you posted details of the laptop someone will find one for you. If your car battery goes out, but ran fine otherwise for what you were using it for, do you go buy a brand new , or new to you used car? I use mine for taking notes with clients, but as a reliable way to take notes for school, i have no desire. the blue tooth can randomly discconect at bad times, or batteries die. Buy her a laptop for school (chrome book for 300??) or something small like that for cheap. Ipad imho is for lounging around on the couch surfing the net. If she's using it to take notes, I would suggest either a small laptop, netbook or droid based tablet as their Office interfaces are nicer. I have both and love my iPad, but it's not a replacement for a laptop. She was looking at the cases with built in keyboards or a separate snap in keyboard. Logitech is one of the nicest ones.
