Made another oil purchase today..... :D

might want to change to cost averaging every 50 cents or a dollar instead of a quarter.... Or just wait till 10 :p

supply is piling up and the downtrend in price action is still on. personally i'd wait for some type of up day to hold for more than a couple of days before goin long.

Lower Highs and Lower Lows is definition Bear trend.

Went long on a small amount MSFT last week. For a possible short term play I've been watching BP dive, not sure what price I want to pull the trigger if at all.

I have been buying MSFT on any weakness in my long term account. I was lucky enough to start in the 20-22 range, cost is up to ~35 now.

I understand the argument. Am I getting in on the bottom with every purchase, no. I am averaging a purchase around every 4-5% drop right now and will probably continue to do this (roughly every $0.60 drop), increasing my purchases each time. I did decide against going every quarter, but overall, I feel like I was getting a good deal when I started purchasing and it just gets better and better.

if you know the company is in a down trend and expect it to go lower why average down? I can understand if its something that could take off any moment so you don't really know, but technicals should be able to give you a rough idea of when the true bottom has been reached. Especially if you know the company pretty well.

Maybe it's better if I explain my strategy better. I've only bought about 20% of what I plan to buy ultimately in my first 3 buys (3%, 7%, 10%). As it goes down more I will up my purchases progressively so that my last buy will be at the lowest price I get it at and that will end up being around 35% of the total, hopefully in the low $30 per barrel range. Looking at what everyone has been saying I have started to let it go down a little further between purchases like you said.

Your strategy will work for sure. I do average down as well but it's usually not intended, it's a result of the price going lower than I expect. If I'm truly long then I take any discount as a time to buy shares.

Like I mentioned earlier the days to weeks timeframe didn't work well for me. Months, years, or minutes I do really well.

Yes, I love watching a bunch of great companies go on sale, just not sure it's the right time to start buying yet.

I'm expecting things to move down probably through mid fall and maybe through end of year. Jan-Feb is usually the turning point. On the six month chart the dow made a double top with a lower high and that's consistent with the type of things in the news right now. And we got ourselves an election so...

I did some at 9:30. I hope this is not 2008

I added to all my longs this morning. I hope it is 2008 again, not many second chances to get into the market cheap (helps having a super long time horizon). I am stalking the XLE and USO for entry on reversal and then dump all remaining cash into my longs. Loving the banks large BAC and regional HBAN at these levels.

Only long I have that I am worried about is AA. Greed killed me on that one. I was damn near tripled up at 18 and thought "just wait till 20".

A lot of it is the realization that China is nothing, just like the Russians in the early 90's.

The only thing China really has going for it is billions of people, however under socialism they still don't consume quite like us. Their government just spent the last couple decades trying to "buy" what makes us the worlds great consumers and makes the world turn for us.
