Johny Utah
What's the best year for a Z71 Tahoe for 10,000 or less?
nurkvinny
Don't know about best, but our 2001 4x4 keeps chugging along with very little maintenance.
aussiek2000
best year, 2014. Under 10k, thats a crap shoot.
caseyctsv
I had a 2002 Z71 Suburban and it was absolutely trouble free for 120k miles I had it - dude bought it from me and has but another 50k trouble free on it. My buddy has a 2005 and has had all sorts of trouble. I think there was a "refresh" in 2005.

caseyctsv
04 or 05 they made a few changes and they had instrument panel issues. His 2005 has a speedometer that does not work...clearly impacted by the trouble you highlight.
Stretch
Family has had a 2002 that was purchased brand new. Just rolled over 240k miles and the only real repair other than the normal stuff was the AC went out. Still runs great
Cordell
His 2005 has a speedometer that does not work...clearly impacted by the trouble you highlight. I've seen that issue in every year of the last couple body styles, it's bound to happen sooner or later. You can get the stepper motors that go bad online and soldier them in, I've never done that though, the dealer just makes you buy the whole thing. Personally I think they are all pretty good, just need to find one that had maintenance done and isn't rusty underneath.
evil8
Only get a 2003....
spankis
Only get a 2003.... Parents had a 2003 Suburban, and even with religious maintenance it bent pushrods at 140k or so.... Just stirring the pot though, as it was a solid truck up to that point, and to be fair it towed more weight than it was rated for pretty regularly. Clifford Automotive
They all have cluster issues, it just a matter of when and where. I have a 2003. Check the brake lines on whatever you look at.
Bill-H
GM released a pre-bent, pre-flared brake line kit for them (just put them in my 03 Tahoe). it has 235xxx miles on it.
