Opinions wanted: black or polished/chrome wheels?

Really struggling on whether to go with black wheels versus polished / chrome. I have always leaned towards the flash of chrome (which my wife favors coincidentally) but I think the color of my car may lend itself well to black. What do you guys think?

The candidate:

If you black out the wheels, I'd look at blacking out ALL chrome...personally, I don't get blacked-out wheels and tint when the pipes and window trim are still shiny.

If you go with blacked-out wheels, I'd look at smoked side-markers front/rear as well, and seriously look at tinted tails.

Are there any chrome accents in the front aside from the bow-tie in the grille?

Also...I know you're a good husband like I try to be, Casey :) : if your wife likes the bright wheels, she might not like the car as much after you changed what she likes about it...

On those wheels with your car, I'd go polish black chrome. I'm thinking of doing that on my summer wheels too and debate this back and forth. To follow up what Clay notes, I'd also look at having the chrome trim wrapped too. To do my entire Sedan Trim was about $250 so it could be even less on yours as you barely have any. Not sure I'd even do it on yours though since it's minimal.

can you get a black center with a chrome lip or silver detailing? What about charcoal gray?

I feel like straight black wheels make any camaro look like a base model since the base model has black steelies with trim rings that everyone seems to damage. Or at the very least they tend to wipe out the wheel detail in certain light like this:

I happen to love these wheels but they are hella expensive:

even painting the stock wheels anthracite keeps some of the detailing while tie-ing in well with the black:

I talked my friend into purchasing the same wheels I did for his RS. He's been very pleased with them. Niche Misano's. I'll have him get me some pictures in a few minutes.

That is a similar wheel - as is the Niche Targa. I like the chrome lip on the ones above.

Not perfect but it works. I'd still vote to have them in a black chrome or leave them Polished. I'm biased though. After a week they will get dirty and get darker anyway. LOL that my summer wheels go from brushed aluminum to power coated back chrome look after about 5 days.

Hit up Derek for your wheels and install. He got me a great deal on the Niche Wheels and did a bang up job. Installed, mounted both summer and winter wheels for me in my driveway :p I'm sure he can get you anything brand wise you want.

Considering these:

The top wheel on your car would be gorgeous. it would pop so much. Black to me just looks cheap and this is coming from someone who only put black wheels on his car for ten years. I'm really into polished and machines wheels these days.

I think the color of your car deserves something other then black

My 2 cents. Assuming the vehicle in question is the same burnt copper red as shown in the example.

Red and Black combo will make your wheels fade into the wheel well. If you are going for a stealth look where the wheel will fade into the background in turn, making the car itself the star of the show then I would go with that. It is very unlikely that black wheels will catch much (if any) attention due to how colors catch people's eye. You could shine up the black and make it glossy, but that still would not help bring attention to the average person. Black will almost always fad into the back of our minds and not be the "eye catcher" most people think it can be. In some cases, yes black can catch your eye but not in this example due to the color of the example vehicle.

Red and silver combo will make the wheels pop more which have a better chance to A: complement the car's appearance or B: become the eye catcher which will bring someone's eyes to your vehicle. The advantage of the silver/chrome option is that it will bring the most overall attention to your car which can make the wheel or the car the star of the show. There is also a downside to this option as well. At times, the silver/chrome option could also damage the appearance by taking to much attention from other aspects of the car. In addition, if you choose an ugly or horrible design then people will only remember that when they think of your car. Choose wisely when picking something that is silver or shiny because it can attract unwanted attention.

IMO, I would go with the silver. I have never been a fan of blacked out wheels, but at the end of the day I would say buy what makes you happy. What do you see yourself looking at when you envision your car in the morning?

The again, there is always this option...

¿por qué no los dos?
