I suppose the number could be calculated roughly by dividing the total weight of the raw material by an average weight of an anvil. I'd guess about half of your number. There are probably about 1.5 tons of material and each anvil weighing roughly half a ton. With proper heat treatment, the alloying components in the material will lend themselves to a high toughness level. It was designed to flex and to withstand impact loading to start.

I don't think I've personally ever seen a half ton anvil in person. Mine is, like, 50 lbs. Sxott's is around 150-200 lbs I think.

Here's a video of me actually forging. Yeah...I know I'm huge and ugly. Is what it is.

I'm using a GoPro Hero 1 a buddy gave me and editing with crappy MSoft Movie Maker. Haven't taken the time to research or learn anything else. Don't have a lot of free time so it is what it is.

Any feedback is appreciated.

I like it.

What are you using to edit the videos?

It's been a busy couple of days.

Working with Sxott of Sxott Knives, my friend and mentor. Check out his (insanely beautiful) knives.

Got to use his awesome forge.

I was able to forge out some railroad spike knives.

Here are 3 of the 4 I did this weekend finished. BIG thanks to DJ for grabbing one as a Christmas gift for his father in law. I was also a pleasure to finally meet his wife.

On top of 4 RR spike knives I put a handle on the first knife I have created from start to finish. Here are a total of 7 clamps used waiting for the epoxy to cure.

Time to work the handle profile and shaping (didn't get any pics of all the hand sanding and shaping done).

Here it is. Finished. The very first knife I've made 100% start to finish. It's 1085 steel with mosaic pins complimenting blue denim scales.

I am in love with how everything turned out. The hamon is perfect, the edge is hair splitting sharp, and the feel is perfect. BIG thanks to Sxott Knives for the tutelage. I could NOT have done this (or many many other things) without him.

My eyes are following along the edges...that's a really nice job!

Do you have any thoughts/options for a holster?

Thanks man! Sxott is a great teacher. He really helped me take note of visual cues so the knife looks as good as it feels. This one ended up feeling so nice to hold and use that I almost didn't want to give it away.

As for a sheath I'll prob take it back to Sxott and have him show me how he makes his. That was it's 100% knife and sheath made by me.

Just got back from doing Christmas with the folks. Dad had seen the pics on FB as I've been making this knife throughout the year. He had no idea I'd planned on giving it to him all along. He's seriously my biggest inspiration. He loved it.

I wish I had a better camera and had some professional quality pics of it.
