im glad the bill was signed -

The music industry got walloped this year and it doesn't look much better for 2021. I have a management business and a multi million dollar production company and we havent been able to operate since March. With the signing of this bill it looks like my businesses will be eligible for a lot of grants in the $15bil allocated to save the stages.

Im looking forward to rebuilding the business and getting back to "normal" once we can have live shows again.

I'm not sure that handing out free money again is the answer, but I suppose it has to be done to correct what they've already screwed up. I'm also not hating on anyone who takes advantage of the money, if you don't, someone else will.

I am selfishly pissed that I'll see $0 again from this stimulus yet my taxes will be paying it back.

No money last time and no money this time, screwed once again for trying to do better for yourself in the middle class.

This is merica, more money more bills. End of pointless rant.

I understand this - I make too much to qualify for the personal checks. I didnt get anything last round, which didnt matter to me. This round had specific provisions for the entertainment industry. Thats why it matters to me. Ill get some PPP money for the management business and ill get some grants for the live production business. The amounts are based on up to 45% of 2019 revenue and if the grants are "free money" by all means, ill apply for it. Ive been able to float myself this year without income until I closed a few big deals this month, but overall its been awful for this industry, possibly more so than any other industry. It will allow me to rebuild, rehire, hire and retain people to help me rebuild it. Thats the intent. Not to go buy lambos and planes like ive seen some business do haha

Yep, I totally get it, and fault no one for using what's available to better their lot. Hopefully it allows a lot of businesses to ride this out and become profitable again. We've been pretty lucky to not lose much financially and have been able to work through most of the pandemic. I actually took a voluntary furlough for a bit and watched the kids, so can't complain to much.

I'm just bitter, and want some free money to help finish out my new shop, lol.

Just imagine how many other businesses and industries could have been helped if this was a legit relief bill and not a spending bill.

You guys didn’t get anything for kids?

I got a small amount for the kids the last go-round, but playing with the numbers, our income was very close to the drop-off point. An extra 10k in AGI and I would have gotten half of what we got, and an extra 20k in AGI and it would have gone away altogether. At least I think, I'm terrible with numbers and money.

This go-round, I don't think I'm eligible for anything. The income cutoffs are lower I believe.

Shout out to socialism.

I must confess to being a little bit confused that conservatives are mad about Republicans doing exactly what they've been electing them to do for decades. If anything, there shouldn't have been a stimulus at all, because Coronavirus is just the flu and every should just get over it already, industries should just dig into their rainy day funds and if they can't they deserve to fail, the stimulus is 100% deficit spending which is the worst sin imaginable, and it's not the government's place to redistribute wealth.

This isn't a partisan critique, I just don't understand. Nothing about the Republican platform would suggest that they'd agree to a $2000 "clean" stimulus like Trump (briefly) demanded. Nothing. So why is anyone surprised that it's dead in the water?

That's my point. Everyone "hates" socialism until the government "only" wants to give $600 back to you. Most failing to realize we live in a capitalist x socialist hybrid system already. Not saying I'm a fan of socialism or or even these stimulus checks, but people need to look at it for what it is.

Oh I agree.

I think part of the problem is that people never learn that money is fungible, or if they do it's as an academic exercise and they don't apply the concept strictly enough to their every day experiences. I learned this when I was in college and I'd tell my friends I couldn't go out drinking because I only had money for groceries. And then my dad would slide me some money for groceries and guess what! Then it slowly dawned on me that he wasn't paying for my groceries, he was paying for my drinking, because I was gonna buy those groceries regardless. I'm sure on some level he knew that, but if he actually saw how I lived my life he never would have given me a dime.

So people say, "No, you've got it all wrong. It's not SOCIALISM, they're just giving me back MY MONEY that I paid in TAXES." And it's like, MOTHERFUCKER, WHAT DO YOU THINK SOCIALISM IS.

Lol, I hadn't seen that, but that was good. Thanks for the chuckle. "I'm going to send this bill back to a congress that won't exist in 4 days, telling them that I'm not going to spend the money in the way they want me to as long as I'm president, which is only 3 more weeks. Also, they're going to spend their next 4 days finally getting to the bottom of VOTER FRAUD and SECTION 230." What are we going to do without this genius in charge? Who is this message even for? Just trying to stop Newsmax from turning against him on his way out the door?

Axios is also reporting that Trump announcing his bid to run again in 2024 is effectively a done deal, so we get to hear him crow for another 4+ years. It's tiring to hear his narrative all the time, even in the rare instance he's right on a topic. Hoping that Twitter puts a muzzle on him once he's out of office.

It is my understanding that if Trump decides to run again that there would be vastly greater oversight on his Election Fraud slush fund of $230 million that he conned out of his followers. I think he will continue to threaten to run but I doubt he follows through.

Oh... please expand on this.

feeling is mutual. shocker you resulted to insults as the par.

sadly both sides have failed in politics over this recent covid bill.

Not going to clarify what the heck you meant by accusing me of being "pro socialism?" Shocker you resulted to drive-by non-sequiturs.

eta: I will gladly have an insult-free conversation with you about whatever you'd like, but you never seem interested in actually engaging beyond a completely superficial level. Why is that?
