max power
You might want to mention what kind of tv you have. Did you get a flat panel?
smashweights
you'll need either an RCA cable, DVI cable, AVI cable, HDMI cable, or S-video cable, depending on what outputs your laptop has and what inputs your TV has./end smartass. sorry.most likely your laptop will have an S-video and DVI/Analog cable output. if it's a newer laptop, it'll probably have an HDMI output, which will save you the sarcastic responses to "which audio cable to I need" :-P Edited December 30, 2009 by smashweights
Gump
No, just the old tube style. But it has front audio video plugs. I'm guessing they make a usb cable with simple av outputs and then i download a shareware program to play?I have one for my security system but it allows video to feed into my laptop. Big Speazy
I looked into an s-video to rca before, was referred either to a specialty shop (by bestbuy) or the internet. Since I didn't know of specialty shops I did a quick google of S-vid to Rca and found some sites that sold cables, but they seemed expensive.Luckily I went out and bought a new tv, and it had the 9 prong cable plug, and so did my computer, so I spent about 20$ at microcenter and bought a monitor cord.* scratch the s-vdieo idea then. I need a cheat sheet for connector names. there's 3 usb ports, a phone jack, the bigger phone jack. the big wide skinny hole the air cards or data cards slide into and some wierd small hole on the back, a small hole on the front labeled 1394 similiar to a micro usb port, a microphone plug, a headphone plug...wait there is a vga port. thanks. It's what i'd call a old school port. 15 pin joby with screw connectors on either side.Lenovo Thinkpad t400. i thought i added every bell and whistle at the time. Big Speazy
I got one of these!!!!where does 9 prong come from? http://pinouts.ru/Video/VGA9_pinout.shtmlI just got confused.Does the TV also have a 15 Pin/ VGA? if so, microcenter has the cable for it. then you change the settings on your comp. to share desktop with additional screen (in this case, your tv) and it should work. ReconRat
yeah, I was gonna say. Geez... that's an AV out, not a serial port. I run my laptop with a simple VGA to VGA (to portable projector). I have to reverse the video out with the video on the computer screen. Because my laptop is old, and I want the higher resolution on the AV out. It won't do both. Basically I shut the image down on the computer screen to get that. It's a 9 pin AV out on old MAC computers, if I remember rightly. Before they went to IBM compatible monitors. A serial cable fits it, I think, and that's wrong. Seen people burn up monitors trying to "adapt" old style MAC monitor to IBM video output on a newer MAC. SAMBUSA
Wow, talk about overkill. Go to walmart, they've got a simple USB to video cable. Cost you less than
ReconRat
The wireless connection devices that David showed, are useful when your flat panel screen is wall mounted, or your projector is ceiling mounted. The wireless eliminates a great deal of hassle.

Glad to help, now everyone else quit trying to confuse the issue with more hardware than he needs.I was a little confused by the dude calling it the 9 pin thingy too since VGA is 15 pin on the cable but 15 holes on the computer. Not that I care a lot about jargon but I find it easiest to look this stuff up so we are all talking about the same thing. I am kind of a geek though. I'll take this post as an opportunity to whore more pictures of my 4 monitor and a projector set up that I'm still kinda proud of. Yes they are all connected to 1 computer and I can put different things on every screen. Edited December 31, 2009 by vw151
