SWing'R
Tried to start my lawnmower today for the first time this season. It wouldn't start.Took the plug out, it looked like shit so I picked up a new one and stuck it in,still nothing. It sat all winter with a little bit of gas in the tank, I added some to it (the last that I had in my can) hoping it would be enough to do the yard but couldn't get it to start. I know it could use a oil change but for the moment just need to see if I canget it running. This mower was given to me a couple years ago by a neighborthat moved out, I've never done any maintenance to it other than having the blade sharpened last season.I can take it to the mower place here in Hilliard but I'm sure they are bookedup with other people like me that waited until the last minute to try and start their mower
Casper
Have you tried troubleshooting anything? Like fresh gas? Remove the air filter? Try starting fluid? Anything?
SWing'R
Have you tried troubleshooting anything? Like fresh gas? Remove the air filter? Try starting fluid? Anything? All I did was replace the plug. I didn't have the chance to go get somenew gas yet, will probably go get some tomorrow and fiddle with the air filter then.Went out with the hopes of cutting the grass and wasn't prepared for a non functional mower Just kinda looking to see if anyone local is available for repairs if it comes down to it. Gump
Does it crank? Tap the fuel bowl. Unscrew the drain bolt at the bottom of the fuel bowl and see if any comes out. Ethers a good start to see if it's fuel or spark
ReconRat
Check for spark first. Repair if none.Try start with air filter removed.Drain the tank. Fresh gas. Fresh plug. Starting fluid spray if necessary. If no start, remove and clean carb. Or fiddle with ignition timing.edit: don't forget the choke, and does it work... jagr
Get some of this. Mix it in fresh gas. Pull it a bunch to flood it. Let it sit. Retry.

ReconRat
well then, if no choke, then the choke doesn't work, heh?Pretty weird to not have some sort of choke for cold starting.Does it have a prime that adds fuel when pushed? It has to have something somewhere. JaSSon
Most newer small engines have an automatic choke. Some don't even have a primer. Remove the air cleaner to access the carb. Remove the bowl (nut on bottom). Go nuts with carb cleaner. Also spray carb cleaner in the intake. Put it back together and let it sit for a few and try again. If that doesn't do it, spray a flammable aerosol into the intake (starter fluid, carb cleaner, brake parts cleaner) with the filter removed and immediately try to start. ReconRat
Don't start a lawnmower fire. I would know this...edit: Working on the lawn mower right next to the water hose is very handy.

SWing'R
Got the mower running. Some fresh gas, shot of starting fluid in the carb, air filter full of starting fluid, that did the trick.
