Anyone here do lawnmower repairs??

Tried to start my lawnmower today for the first time this season. It wouldn't start.

Took the plug out, it looked like shit so I picked up a new one and stuck it in,

still nothing.

It sat all winter with a little bit of gas in the tank, I added some to it (the last that I had in my can)

hoping it would be enough to do the yard but couldn't get it to start. :dunno:

I know it could use a oil change but for the moment just need to see if I can

get it running. This mower was given to me a couple years ago by a neighbor

that moved out, I've never done any maintenance to it other than having the

blade sharpened last season.

I can take it to the mower place here in Hilliard but I'm sure they are booked

up with other people like me that waited until the last minute to try and start

their mower

Have you tried troubleshooting anything? Like fresh gas? Remove the air filter? Try starting fluid? Anything?

All I did was replace the plug. I didn't have the chance to go get some

new gas yet, will probably go get some tomorrow and fiddle with the air filter then.

Went out with the hopes of cutting the grass and wasn't prepared for a non functional mower :p

Just kinda looking to see if anyone local is available for repairs if it comes down to it.

Does it crank? Tap the fuel bowl. Unscrew the drain bolt at the bottom of the fuel bowl and see if any comes out. Ethers a good start to see if it's fuel or spark

Check for spark first. Repair if none.

Try start with air filter removed.

Drain the tank. Fresh gas. Fresh plug. Starting fluid spray if necessary.

If no start, remove and clean carb. Or fiddle with ignition timing.

edit: don't forget the choke, and does it work...

It doesn't have a choke, just has the engage lever that you have to hold

down to use the mower, if you let go of it the engine stops, it has that and

a primer button, thats it, no throttle control or anything.

I'll mess with it some more tomorrow or something, simply wasn't expecting

it to not start today and didn't feel like messing with it.

well then, if no choke, then the choke doesn't work, heh?

Pretty weird to not have some sort of choke for cold starting.

Does it have a prime that adds fuel when pushed?

It has to have something somewhere.

Most newer small engines have an automatic choke. Some don't even have a primer. Remove the air cleaner to access the carb. Remove the bowl (nut on bottom). Go nuts with carb cleaner. Also spray carb cleaner in the intake. Put it back together and let it sit for a few and try again. If that doesn't do it, spray a flammable aerosol into the intake (starter fluid, carb cleaner, brake parts cleaner) with the filter removed and immediately try to start.

Yeah, it has a primer bulb, thats it. You know I know all the tricks you guys

mentioned too I just didn't have the patience to screw with it today :nono:

My lazy ass has been laid up in the house since Wednesday per doctors orders,

today was the first time I ventured outside and when the lawnmower

didn't cooperate, I just went back inside :p

That is what I was going to suggest
