What year did the 2nd gen start for SV1000?

What year did the 2nd gen come out for the SV1000? I did some searching and found the 2nd gen years for the SV650 and found something saying that the TL1000 was the 1st gen and the SV1000 was the second gen, but no real confirmation.

Anyone know?

What about the SV1000 oil starvation issue while performing wheelies?

Thanks.

I'm not sure but MarlboroMan just toasted a crank on a older sv650 possibly because all he did is wheelies. But then again he is REALLY hard on equipment.

Any V-twin is going to have issues with prolonged wheelies. All the oil is going to the back of the sump and if the pickup is in the bottom middle or front of the sump, you are going to loose oiling on the front cylinder.

All SV650's have this issue, the first gen are the worst. I haven't heard about SV1000's having this issue, but they will if you keep it up for a long time. Short burst wheelies/power wheelies are fine.

There is no 2nd gen SV1k. They were the successor to the TLS/R line and the body and chassis were homogalmated into the second generation sv650 line, when they gave the 650s fuel injection. SV1ks always were 1000cc FI vtwins, but the sv650s were carbeurated until the second gen in 2003.
